Sorry if this has been asked. I did look first before posting. I cannot seem to get my avatar to load. I have resized it to 800x600 and have tried it both ways. I used a copy from my desktop and then I tried with my photobucket account. Here is a copy of the pic that I want in my avatar. I would be thankful for any help on this matter.

The file size for the picture can't be more than 100kb Joey.  I would check that first, since even at 800x600 you could be over the allotted size.

Well im not sure how to tell how many KB the pic is but on photobucket I resized it to Avatar size 100x75. Im not sure which link to cop and paste but none seem to work anyways. I have never had such problems on a forums trying to get my avatar to work.  :-[

Joey - Hang in there!

If you can get your original pic (which is dang nice, btw) into your "My Pictures" folder (if using Windows), you should be able to simply move your cursor over the icon (if in view icons) or simply read the file size (if in view details mode) to get the file size.  I can't remember what the file structure is if you're using a MAC.

If you're using Windows, you may have a program like Paint within your Accessories folder.  If you do, you can open the file and resize it manually.  A better app to use that you may have installed is Microsoft Photo Editor.  You can resize in this a little easier.  If you use XP, here's a link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/learnmore/tips/eschelman2.mspx.  Another approach would be to send the pic to yourself as an email, selecting to send it in reduced size.  Save the file (under a different name so you retain the original) and you should end up with a version less than 100kb.

Some of this is a matter of successive approximations and some is a little more direct.

I'm no PC guru, but I've used all these approaches when confronted by a similar challenge.  I have an HP that came with image editing software that I use, so I'm lucky to remember these approaches!

You'll get it.

What I did here and on another one of Marshall's sites was upload the file to Kodak Gallery using easy share software.  Pull the pic up in the Gallery and right click to "save as".  Name it and save it in whatever folder.  Then in your profile page here you have to click the bubble that says "choose my own" or something like that, and then "browse" to find the new file.  It should work, as Easy Share automaticaly resizes yer photos to be web friendly.

Joey -

Where's the pic that was included in your original post?  I'm at work and maybe the file size is too large to show up.  We also get things filtered by key words.  Oh how I love big brother.

Anyway, pm it to me if you can or send it to my email address on my profile.  There's spam filtering, but just put something recognizable in the subject line.  If all else fails, just give me the link to the photobucket and I'll get a copy of it there.  One way or the other, I'd be happy to use the assorted photo editing stuff I've got to get it sized and then I'd send it back to ya.

It's a cool pic with the two revolvers & knives; you should have it and we should all be able to enjoy it and recognize it on your posts.

Hi all,

I know this is kind of old, but I would really appreciate the same help.

here's the pic I would like to use for my avatar.

it's the best version of the image... I made one smaller too, and it still wouldn't work.

thanks for the help.

I have been unsucessful in changing my avatar to my convention uniform can someone send me a PM with steps.  I seem to be missing something in the process and don't know what I am doing wrong. I keep getting the following message: An Error Has Occurred! The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.

if it helps, I played with the size of mine a lot.  Just kept messing with it, and finally I got it remade.

I also found this forum topic, did everything in it, and eventually it worked.  Good Luck!
