Just starting a new topic, and wondered what everyones favorite type of holster is. Just one type tho, remember its your most favorite.

Mine is a full contoured double recurve slim jim. I like the cut out for the trigger guard and the hammer, but I like the extra leather in the back to protect your belly from getting poked by a pistol. Also looks good.

I like the full contour main seam because it shows what the firearm might be, and I believe it tends to have a little better fit than a more open boot type holster.

Howdy Dalton,

I prefer the "Slim Jim" style probably because most of my pistols have 7-1/2" barrels. Also I like the elegant, old look.

This should be an interesting topic. Thanks for posting this,

   Howdy All

Will Dalton you made the rules on this one , and that makes it reeeeeally hard on me , there are so many holsters and gun rigs i like, but if i had to narrow it down to one, it would be my Alfonso Penada , James Arness holster and gun belt. With my arms hanging at my side, i like knowing my thumb is close at hand to the hammer of my gun , i like the way this style holster has an extra long drop to allow this, to me it's the most natural way of pulling a sixgun that i have ever tried or used, bringing the gun up and out of the holster is natural, smooth and inline with what ever target i'm shooting at, and when you shoot 7 1/2" barreled sixguns, it is very comfortable to carry and use. ( IMHO )

I prefer drop-loop (2" drop minimum) quick-draw style holsters with a flared opening (for smooth reholstering) and exposed trigger guard with a full length skirt - holster secured to the skirt with a buckle & strap combination.

I like the single loop half skirted holsters because they have the stability of a skirted holster (no floppin' around) but with the sleek long flowing lines of a slim jim holster. Hard choice ta be sure...I really like 'em all.

Now you have to go and make it difficult. I only have about 15 favorite holster styles. I think my all-time favorite design would probably be a Meanea Cheyenne style holster on a money belt, but not by much. I love the classic lines, stability and comfort of the skirted Holster and the additional comfort of the money belt. Any more, though, it seems that the coolest holsters are the ones I haven't made yet. There are two I really want for my next rig, so I'll probably be making both. ;) :D ;D 8)

Currently, I favor a single loop with skirt. But this forum has a way of changing one's mind. For instance, I was never very fond of slim jim styles until I saw the work here.

Wow, so much love for the Slim Jim! I wonder if it's a generational preference? Despite not DIS-liking the Slim Jim style, it IS my least preferred style of holster.

Interesting!

Just your favorite holster. If you could buy one and only one in your lifetime, what you would buy. Can be because you like the style, the practical use, the whatever, but what is your favorite.

Dalton what you and Johnny described pretty much sums up my feeling for the SLIM JIM.
It would be my favorite, it could also be my perferance of the earlier revolvers that fits with them so well.
when planets align...do the deal !

I second that motion on the pistoles, Major. I like the early holsters because I like the early guns, too. Everybody has their own whimsies, I reckon. Whatever trips our triggers is what we usually run with. ;D

Cheers,

I guess since I like all the holsters, that means I have to go buy all the guns to go in 'em, too. Works for me. ;D
