I'm looking for a Lyman Mould 454485. It is an obsolete mould but I need it for an 1867  Ballard .  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi BobNSS-A,

:-\ :-\  Sorry, I did several searches out there in "Internet Land", but nothing came up (your mould #) that was available.  Thought there was one on Ebay, but couldn't find any reference to it.  How about having a custom mould made?

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks  getting a custom mold may be an option  .I haven,t given up looking  yet. I also have a Spencer carbine  and rifle  both original  to get shooting .

That appears to be a gas check bullet. You might want to find a regular base for your ballard. What is your bore slugging out at? I shoot 2 different Ballards, one has a .429 bore, and the other is .457. I shoot a 44 mag bullet in the .429, and a 45-70 hollow point in a .45LC case in the .457. Both are very competitive in team and individuals. I can give you model numbers if you would like. I also shoot a wesson. All the Kentucky home guard single shots are very competitive in the Breechloader 2 matches.

Thanks for the info. Mine is a .46 with a gorgeous  bore and deep rifling . I'll be using a .44mag..And tried one in at the Nats. with that bullet. IT is a gas checked  bullet . I just have to got a bullet for it. If no one in the world has that mold I'll go to plan B.                          Bob     29th Wi.NSSA

I am suprised a 46 has a tight enought bore to shoot a 454. My 46 is the original bore and it is .457, and I have seen some .458. Just remember you cannot shoot it with the gas check in place, they are against NSSA rules. :)

You may try the 457122 mould from Lyman, and size it down if you have to. Good luck, another Ballard on the line is always a good thing, anything to keep those darn Sharps rifles out of the medals. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The Lyman 454190 is remarkably similar.  The difference is that it is not a gas check style.  You might consider one of them.
