I am interested in some period camping must haves....

I have the tent, I have some chairs, I have a lamp with oil.  I have a lamp holder.  I have a table and tin ware.  What else do I NEED?  Plan to do some camping with the KVC next weekend.

Might want to consider getting up off the ground in a cot.

And don't forget a waterproof groundcloth, unless you already have one with the tent.

When I was a boy sojer, my first Company Sergeant Major, a Korean war vet, gave us two rules.

1.  ALWAYS count your rounds.

2.  ALWAYS have your own supply of dry "sanitary tissue"!

Almost 50 years later I still live by both rules.

Oh, BTW, I ALWAYS have gloves when in the field.  Never know when Del will invite me for Kauphy!  Hep y'self sir!

Went to James Country yesterday.  Picked up another lanter and a hanger, and a couple of J hooks to hang stuff off the center beam.  Thinking of hanging my shooting irons to keep them off the ground.  Also picked up a cot a Dick's.  Not period correct, but my sleeping bag will not be either.   ;D

Got some candles and and matches too.  I would really like to get one of those Winchester wooden crates.  Or even better a wooden crate that said "US Government 45 /70"  or "US Army" or something like that.

Richard:

I highly recommend a good 'period correct' wool blanket which, if large enough, does an excellent job of covering your non-pc cot and sleeping bag!

I speak from personal experience:  for my own purposes a nice  3 1/2 Point Hudson Bay Company blanket does the job, but I imagine that for you a repro US military blanket would be preferable ....

Jack, now you know a good homemade quilt will get you more style points, 4-5 of them even more. ;)

Nonsense!  Go on down to Twyla's and rent a couple of her sporting ladies.  Warmer than a blanket, softer than sleeping on the ground, and period correct to boot!  Might even boil your morning coffee for you.   ;D
