What grain cartridge do ya'll generally shoot in these?  200, 250?

Mine is .44 Colt and I shoot 200 grain bullets over a smokeless load.

158gr over about 15gr black powder(bullet compresses load about 1/4" or so). Also .38sp.

Thanks for the responses.  I should have mentioned that mine is .45 LC and I shoot mostly smokeless.

45LC is really pushing the limits of the design.  I would limit it to 200gr bullets and light loads at that.  Even better: BP  :)

I shoot 200 and 215 gr in 44 Russian or Special, and 200 gr in the 45 Schofield. (smokeless)

Nominally 200 gr. in 44R.  Since my melt is soft, these come out closer to 210gr. Trailboss or Pyrodex, usually Pyrodex (or BP).

    A pard of mine has a brace in 45 Colt and he uses Cowboy 45 Special brass,with ffg gunpowder and ethier the 150 EPP/Ug Big Lube Boolit or a H&G #.130 S.W.C. 185 gr. and they are all there but not overly hard on the guns.We were out a week ago and all those loads shoot POA/POI.      Adios  Sgt. 200gr BigLube bullet in .44 Russian and Special.  Black powder, of course.
