Question #1: As long as a person uses a arbor press or clamp method, how bad do the Tandy 2D-3D Rose stamp look  ??? ???
I am going to buy a set of the James stamps, but I told him when they were ready to fill everyones ordes before me, i know they are worth what the price is, but I don't have that much money right now, please be honest on how the Tandy 3-d stamps look, I would love to see a REAL LIVE IMPRESSION ON A HOLSTER taken close up, if anyone has this you can email the photo to me!

Question #2: In the book Packing Iron page 198 lower pic, does anyone have a pattern close to that belt that they could email me, even if it was scanned in sections or photo in section, as long as a person can use a ruler or something so I will have a close perspective of it, I am not talking about the craving or anything like that. I am just wanting something to get me a  perspective of depth and ect.

I will be great full for any and all help!! :) :) I have been having so so luck making my own patterns, but it would be a whole lot easier if I had something to go buy.

Thanks Guys

Ace, this is the pattern set I have from Tandy. Its designed by F.O. Baird. Its 10 bucks or so and has 5 belt patterns and 25 holsters patterns. Good set to have. Good luck. DM

Here are 2 of the rose stamps, I'm out of stock on the 3rd right now.
These were done by stamping them not a press or clamp.

Thanks Dalton!
Wc, are those the hand stamps, if so, do the 2-D, 3-D look as good? The hand stamps are smaller and are $8.00, the 2-D 3-D, are $3.25!
I apoligize for allways talking about low cost! But you can only spend what you have, and make the best out of what you can! I like making my own hand stamps, but I cannot make all of them or even close, if they made a tool to put in my dremel that was diamond coated so it would last but they don't.
Thanks for the help, I would be great full, if you would let me know, if the pic'c were hand stamp's or the 2-D 3-d type

THanks A Bunch

Sorry I was not thinking when you said 3D stamp.
Here is the pix of the 3D rose. I don't have the 2D stamp. This was hand stamped not in a press.
Never say sorry you can't afford something. It's taken me over 25 years to build up my collection of tools.
When I started I bought a kids starter set of tools, much worse quality than even what is made today.

Practice a bit, if setting with a mallet, before commiting to your almost finished product.  With these large stamps it is easy to get a double immage bounce at first and be sure to use the large handle thay make for them.  Trying to set these without a handle does not produce good results for me!!!!  A bit more expensive but some outfit has been running a variety of cutting plates on the EBAY occasionally.  These allow you to use a bit larger precut flower outline and sculpt in the remainder.  Think the price has been around $16 each plus shipping.

SB,
I thank you for the advice, how would I search for these? I do have access to a arbor press, I hope and pray that I can learn to hand crave, but honestly I can't draw a stick figure!!
I love this leather work, I bought a old Whites Rotary Sewing Machine, i took over a peice of 11oz cowhide veg tanned, the machine had a little neddle, know we didn't have it threaded, but it punch holes on all setting, I am only going to use it to sew around my belts, not holsters, If it just punches the holes that would be okay with me, I only give $10.00 in a cabinet!

I would be great full for any and all advice, on any of the above.

You don't have to draw. You trace a pattern you like and transfer it to the wet leather. I have only drawn
6 patterns in 25 years and the were just so so. You will learn to take a piece of this one and a piece of that one
and make a new design the more you play.

Ya mostly don't have to draw stick figures anyway, so your safe there. Very few straight lines either. Mostly crooked and curved so I betchya can do it. Just play with it for awhile with tracing paper and lay each drawing under the last one and improve on it each time ya make the tracing. Purty soon ya have a nice lookin' design.  :o  Ace, I know you can do it and you'll have fun at it too.

Cheers,
