Ah...my old MGB a 69 ...many a great time was had.... dam near burned Ocean City, Maryland to the ground on vacation when my gas tank rusted to pin holes  pee'd gas into the street... and unknowingly (celebrating the 4th of July) launched a bottle rocket that set fire to the storm drain

That's what I'd been lead ta understand it's meanin ta be.  But I can understand it's connection with the court house.
     Too many "high balls" can get ya there quick.

Remember, I said to an old Spaniard it meant "courthouse"!  Just another case of us Cowboys misunderstanding those Vaqueros.   
Most cowboys never saw the inside of a courthouse.  They "DID pass COURTHOUSE and went directly to JAIL!"

Spanish for Courthouse: juzgado - the ending of gado is often colloquially pronounced as gow. 

Therefore:  Hoosegow.  It's not really a misunderstanding.


I don't speak Spanish, but I dated girl from northern Spain.  I would learn a word and she would unlearn me.   I have since picked up that the "GOW" pronunciation of GADO is very common and not anything that you can pinpoint to any particular region.

     Claxon horn.  It popped inta my head while I was standing outside an heard a firetruck goin by.  I think that's the original name fer "siren" but a may be wrong.

A Klaxon horn is like on a Model A Ford and goes:

My dad had a couple of Model T's that he had bought when I was a baby. I remeber one had a horn that was mounted on the drivers' side. It was brass and had a rubber bulb on the other end. You squezed the bulb and it honked.
