Hey everyone. I am new to the board and hope you find this post helpful. My great uncle Walter Newell was a saddle maker in St. Louis around the 1940's. Uncle Walter made many saddles over the years he was in business. He mostly made true working saddles, many that were shipped out west. Over the years we have received emails from genealogy forums asking questions about Newell Saddles. So i decided to build a web site to honor Uncle Walter and his work. I hope it helps someone.

I sell nothing on this web site and receive no money. The web site is informational only and I run it out of my own pocket.

Thanks

Welcome, pard. I really enjoyed looking at your site. It's a fine tribute to a good craftsman. Thanks for the link. Be sure to look in now and then. Post any pictures you may have. If you do any leatherworking yourself, we're all interested in seeing your stuff, too.

This was my last project. I enjoy figure carving. Never had the opportunity to learn saddle making from my uncle.

Thanks

That one took about 14 hours to tool. The photo doesn't do it justice. He is carrying my favorite rifle. Winchester 94. Well in my mind that is what he is carrying

I just posted that I have a Vintage Newell Saddle for sale. It is on this web site under classifieds. I included pictures as well. You can email me at justgret@yahoo.com for more information.
Thanks

Great website.  It really saddens me that true craftsman are so rare these days.  It makes me appreciate the folks on this forum who are keeping a great skill from vanishing into history.
