Well..  ;D ;D

I gotta ya.............. I got a  ;D on my face that stretches from one ear ta the other!!!

I tried out my tester .45BP rds today like I told ya`ll last week and I aint stopped  ;D since!!
Test one...
I loaded up one round and pointed at the target `bout 20 yds away Ned Pepper decided that this wuz a good time ta take cover!! :o

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!! an almighty beltch of smoke and flame but nothing like the sharp thump ya get from smokeyless, Ned appeared from behind the loading table and we went ta have a look, a nice hole just outside of a 2in ring at 5 oclock!! ;)

BIG  ;D as we retuned to the firing point and loaded up 2 this time. Ned thought that he would brave and stand `bout 6ft Behind me!!.

Test two...

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM......................BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!! the 2 rds keyholed in the middle of the ring!! I have NEVER shot that well even with smokeyless!! We could not believe it!! :o

Test three...

I shot another 5 rds rapid and they wuz a nice little group `bout 2 1/2" in spread!! Ned wuz now even brave enough ta have a go too!! and his group also as good!!
My findings............
1. The annealed neck cases worked absolutly brilliantly!! they came out of the gun as clean as a smokeyless round!!
2. The neck turned cases were VERY dirty!!
3. After 30 rds the rifle cycled perfectly and had NO noticable crud at all!!
4. I am over the moon with the results and their aint gonna be NO more nasty evil smokeyless stuff in my smokepole!! also it means that I dont have ta `back burner` my bootiful .45 ` :'( cos it would not have been used much iffn I had ta buy a 44.40 ta shoot Black
:'(

Good on ya Paladin pard,

Those are strong rounds, but they also SASS legal and a whole lot more fun to shoot than the piff-ting stuff.

Please post a photo of your loaded rounds and the components laid out.  I know you went to a lot of work to make these and this would be a good place to show both the loaded stuff and the works.

I'm sendin' you an emule on another subject.

May the wind be at your back, the sun in your face and your day spent shootn'.

Thanks PUK,

That bullet will do double duty for you.  It flies great from the ROAs and 58s and it will do ya good in yer 45 Colt rifle.  I've run this same test with another rifle.  Got great results.  It kind of makes me wonder if next time I order a batch or DD/ROA 45-210 molds I might be well off making them flat nose instead of round nose.

Your experience shows that C&B bullets can fly true in cartridge guns.

Next time I ship you something I'll include a handful of El Paso Pete's great EPP-UG bullets to play with.  The trick with those is to try to keep the little 150 grain bullets under SASS maximum velocity when loaded into 45 Colt brass and shot out of a rifle.

There's learnin' goin' on here.

PUK, I missed the boat.  What exactly did you do with the brass?  Looks like neck sized and mouth annealed?  BTW:, Good shooting!!

Lonesome Henry,

My Henry has never had anything but BP run through it and never will.  The day I got it home I cleaned it and immediately prepped it for BP.

RG,
Please explain "prepping" the rifle for BP.  You guys are teachin so much--I can't read enough! :D

Prepping a shootin' iron for black powder is pretty simple. It is basically removing all regular gun oil and smokeless lubes and replacing them with black powder friendly stuff. While you are at it, remove any copper fouling that lurks within the bore for the ones that serve multiple purposes.

Assuming there is no jacket fouling the job is pretty simple. Go through with a good degreaser, then get it dry. Run a couple patches with Ballistol or other BP friendly oil through the bore and wipe the outside of the iron with Moose Milk, a one to ten mix of Ballistol and water. Parts that should be greased need a light coat of BP lube, Bore Butter works well, I mostly use my homemade mix.

PUK, good job! ;D

Big Lube™ is an evolution in Black Powder shooting.  PUK has taken what was intended to be a C&B design Big Lube™ bullet design and made it work in 45 Colt rifles.  Apparently he has done it well because his shooting experience is well within the "excellent" grade for Cowboy Action™ shooting.

What I intend to do is take what our fine pard from the UK has done with his own blood, sweat and tears and make it part of the progress that makes Big Lube™ the high standard of Holy Black shooting.

So, from now on when I order DD/ROA molds from LEE, they will have a flat nose with a 2 degree cast off for easy mold release.  The pistols won't care one whit, but the rifles will thrive on the new bullet.  So, there will be a Big Lube™ design, based on the valuable research of Paladin UK, that will feature a flat nose, but it will have the .450 rebate base that makes it so easy to load in the ROA chambers.

Ok, can anybody now not know that there is genuine learnin' goin' on here.  This will result in another fine Big Lube™ design that will embrace the principal of function and versatility that Big Lube™ designs are based on.

PUK, you will get one FREE new design DD/ROA 45-210 mold from the first batch ordered.  It will feature the flat nose design that you developed to make it compatible with tube magazine rifles.

Fer DD..........
:o WOW!! :o What can I say!! apart from ....................Thanks Pard ;D

I will use it with pride (And hopefully you`ll get a bunch of orders from the pards I shoot with here in the UK). me `n Ned wuz absolutely gobsmaked as to just how good your DD/ROA Boolit performed!!

Fer AJ......
You are bang on the money with your observations! :D First, I deprimed I then held the case just over say 1/2 in from the opening with a pair of pliers ...The type that got that little round bit in the middle of the jaws so`s they are held nice `n snug then I applied the heat with a mini butane torch quickly and evenly around the exposed area until it just started to change to a silver colour and then dumped it into a bowl of water. I then neck sized only using the Lee .45 carbide pistol die after this I went to the neck expander powder dump station on my Lee progressive and finally seated and crimped as normal

One of you guys gotta start up a "hang out an hands on" package like the saddlemakers do.  All it takes is a guest room!
I would gladly pay to spend some time learning all the tricks first hand.  It's one thing ta shoot the preloads (subs at that) but this goes so deep it's hard not to get lost.  It's one thing ta load, but casting lead is a whole 'nother level fer sure.  This is great, great stuff guys.

Very humbly,

That's a helluva idea.  Might have to talk to the local powers that be and see about havin' a little casting and loading clinic at the range one day.  That way pards who didn't grow up with these anachronistic arts can see it done with their own eyes instead of relying strictly on  book learnin' ;)

PUK, have you tried the same load with out annealing the brass?   I have tried annealing the .45 loads for both my wifes Pump rifle and my '92.  Found it didn't really make a difference if I annealed them. Annealing just gave me something to do on a rainy Sunday.  Mr Dastardly's bullet was the key to shooting the entire match without problems.

Fer Litl rooster..

Nope pard I aint.....yet!!  the thing that is, at the back of my mind at the moment is just HOW DIRTY  :o the neckturned cases were and how clean  :) the neck annealed ones were !! .BUT I will try some jest fer the hell of it and report the results, I`m not at the range again until next weekend so don't think I`m ignoring ya!! Here in the UK you can only shoot on approved ranges and Nowhere else!! unless exceptions apply............game warden and the like.....Sure has turned into a sad old country!! :'(
