I'm getting ready to order a case of black.
I've always shot GOEX but KIK is a little cheaper.
Is GOEX worth the extra $1.40 a pound?

Ranch 13

Kiks good powder.
Last time I price powder Goex was cheaper. Who are you ordering from?

I can't give tell you anything about KIK, but I can tell you that if Schuetzen is an option it burns cleaner than Goex. I've been using nothing but Schuetzen for the last year in all my metallic stuff, using up my remaining Goex in my shotgun shells. Schuetzen costs just about the same as Goex, but burns cleaner. They use much better charcoal.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

I'll order thru powder, inc.

Scheutzen is apparently not an option. I tried it too and liked it.

Kik is dirty.  And works just fine.  I've had NO problems with it, and the extra dirt isn't a concern to me.   It bothers others more.  It's great powder on a budget - which I am.

I'm anxious to try some of the Schuetzen that Driftwood (and many others) speak so highly of.

Try Maine Powder House.

That's where my Pard who orders our powder gets Schuetzen.

I'm hoping DD will see this, but he's pretty busy today - selling his photography studio, then retiring!  ;D

There is a place here in Indiana that he gets all his powder from.  They have NO website, only a phone #, which I'll try to find.  I've been there and their prices EASILY beat most others.  I don't know if they carry Schuetzen.

Here it is:

Graf & Sons (Mexico MO) house powder is made by Wano and is reportedly equal to Scheutzen.  It's .13.37/lb plus tax for 25lbs delivered.  Or you can pick it up at the store for under $12

Thanks Steel Horse,

I'll be calling Deer Creek soon to check on powder prices.  They've been very fair in the past.  I intend to try the WANO/Schuetzen stuff.  I'll report back what I learn.

Noz,  The Old Cabin Shoppe here in Carthage carries Graf & Sons brand of powder and the last lb I bought was about $11. It is made by WANO and according to a German friend is actually better than Scheutzen because of the use of Alder charcoal making it burn much cleaner. I've had no problems with it whether shooting or cleaning.

Have fun at the May shoot and give my reguards to everyone as I will be shooting an NCOWS match at Garnett, KS that weekend. Really wish I could do both.

Deadeye Dick

I've tried Goex, Scheutzen and Swiss. Goex is the cheapest and dirtest with Scheutzen a little cleaner and a little more expensive, while  Swiss is the cleanest and most expensive. I think Swiss is hands down the best of the three, if the dollar isn't a concern to you. I use Swiss or Scheutzen in my cartridge and cap and ball revolvers and Goex or Scheutzen in my muzzle loader. If you're having fouling problems with your revolvers, give Swiss a try.

Howdy Again

Graf and Schuetzen powder are exactly the same stuff, they just have different labels on them. The bottles even look exactly the same. They are both made by Wano, I just looked at a bottle of Schuetzen, and it says so right on the label. They are both made with Buckthorn Alder charcoal which is why they burn so clean.

Yup, Graf's is Schuetzen. Te lable on Graf's says "imported by Schuetzen Powder LLC. Manufactured by Wano Schwarzpulver GmbH, Kunigunde, Germany.  Please don't ask me to pronounce all that.
