Tuning a 58 Remington revolver questions

I have a 58 Remington by Pietta and the little tab thingy that fits into the cylinder notches is coming up too soon and dragging on the cylinder. How do you fix that problem. Also, I would like to smooth up the trigger pull some so it isn't so cotton pickin' stiff. How do you do that with BP revolvers? Any Remmy mechanics out there?

To effect bolt rise (the little tab thingy is the "bolt") you would have to fit a new bolt and time it up. 
To "smooth up" the trigger pull and have it reliable, requires a "jig" to properly polish the trigger sear and the full cock ledge on the hammer.  It's REAL easy to screw that up without a jig. 
Trigger pull is also related to the Main Spring pressure.  You can't reduce the Main Spring much on a C&B.  Cap blowback will push the hammer back and allow the cap to come off the nipple and perhaps jam the gun.
If you want to try reducing the Main Spring, contact vitgunparts and order an after-market Main Spring for the Remmi.  Try the after-market spring and see if the hammer will stay seated on the nipple.  If the after-market spring works, just keep shooting it.

From your description, I don't know how early the bolt is rising....The bolt should pop-up just a bit before the notch. If it pops-up early, it really doesn't hurt. But, it can be replaced and possibly improved. Most bolts I've replaced (in Piettas) were drop-in fit and timing was pretty good without fitting (YMMV).

On the trigger pull issue, I don't reduce power of any spings on my percussion guns. My NM Remingtons alsl needed a trigger-job, which entails squaring & smoothing of the sear surfaces. I don't recommend you try this unless you're willing to purchase new parts to replace those you'll possibly ruin in the learning process  ;)
