Sorry to hijack this page.

I read a number of SSS members were interested in knowing how to make blanks for their 1860 Henry in .45LC. This is my test result.
I used the Winchester AA HS 410 shell. Cut the shell down to the same length as the real .45colt. Load it with ~30-35 grain (by volume) of FFF black powder substitute. Crimp the top with the star crimp and seal it with bee wax mixed with wonder-lube (50/50 mixture). There is no modification in my Henry at all and the round load, cycle, fire with ease.

One point about the 410 shell, I try other manufacturers' shell and found out that only Winchester shell work the best. No need to trim the brass at all. I am also working on the blanks for my 56-50 spencer rifle (not carbine). Will post the result once I have it successfully tested. :)

Hope this will help many SSS members too.

Here is the link of my test video in you-tube.

Good Luck and Be safe :)

How much blow back do you get from the blanks.  Do you get a good gas seal from the 410s or does some of the crud get blown back into the linkage mechanism?  Also do you have to size down the brass any?

Hi Major,

I only try out 20+ rds when I tested the blank. I got a little bit of black stain as I cleaned the linkage mechanism, not much...so I ready can't say until I test fire more. I sized the shell in my carbine .45LC sizer using the shell holder for the 410 shell.

Hope this answered your question.
