Who says Cattlemen N Sheephearders can't get along?

Dell Yer talkin through Yer Hat!  The real problem with the Sheep N Cattle is the danger of Anthrax and hoff n mouth desiese.  Ya have to be very careful and not over graze the range.

We ran both Cattle N Sheep at the ranch for more than 30 years with out a problem. The Basque Sheepherders are very skilled and know how to propely handle without overgrazing.

The Horseshoe Ranch was split up after the Stockton estate in the 1950's it was the third largest ranch in California, 27 Sections.  The Eldaberry Ranch Owned by Marion Jewel Stockton was one of the sub ranches  was 3 &1/2 sections that is the one I grew up on and rode heard.  He was my Grandfather,  My Mother also grew up on the ranch with da Cattle N da Sheep.  We also had hourses, chickens, ducks, n geese and one burro n one goat (fer milk). The main ranch is not called the Horseshoe ranch today--it is called the 5dogs shooting facility and is still a working ranch today.  My cousins own n operate it.

Da Sheep is bringing up da Gatling Gun, said somethin bout giving Ya some Dancing lessons.

Big white tumble weeds!!!!!!!!  (Don't tease Harpoluke, he gets upset easy )  I've heard sheep herders poop round balls also.   Don't know bout them other stories, I ain't a window peeper.

What I heard was the sheep can gnaw the grass down too far so the cattle cannot get ahold of it.

Slim You is right Sheep can knaw the grass so short that to Cattle can't get it. 

It Don't have to be that way,  We graze the pasture with the Cattle first, then a few weeks later the Sheep--no problem.

The trick is to keep the sheep moving, they will by nature stand and graze the grass to the roots, they are not smart.  Cattle normly wont over graze they are a bit smarter.

The Cowboy N the Sheepherder both have to work as a team, this means planning and preparing the watering holes, and salt licks, etc Sheep/Cattle dip etc.

Sheep droopings, are absorbed into the land much faster than Cattle dung, thus enriching the soil--that means better grazing the next year.

It's all hard, honest work, ifin ye tough enough ta do it.

Some unscruplous Sheepherders overgrazed the land razing the ire of the Cattlemen, and resulted in some very bad rangwars.

Haven't seen but heard of other Cattleranchers and Sheephearders working together.

The truth is the Indians probably managed the land and  the Buffalo better than us.

It all dependes on how Ya look at it.
