Nope, I was going to ask for them when I got home, Buck. I'm sure Twin still has them, though.

He might be havin' the same Wire problems as us, Annie. do you have his E-Mail, or is it gonna have to come off his profile there?.........Buck 8) ::) ;)

Gosh, Buck, you are more concerned about it than I am! I'm sure the SASS Wire will eventually be fixed and then I'll send Twin a PM.

What's weird about the problems over there is that some folks are still able to post, while others are not seeing the updated post listings and when you click on a thread, the posts are cut off as of 4:48 yesterday.

Odd.

He's talking about MY front stuffer German grenade launcher, Slim. It's mine and he can't have it, though I appreciate his holding it for me.

Psycelogical, the screeching as they flew over drove the enemy nuts. Wonder how big that Parrot is, Del? They were classed by the weight of the projectile they used. A naval one should have thrown a pretty heavy shell. Any story behind it?........Buck 8) ::) :-\

This one seems to have a 6-8 inch bore, I never measured it.  Back in the late 19th Century a GAF group could get a surpus Civil War Cannon from the Govt.  I believe all you paid was freight.   A lot also ended up in County seats on the Courthouse lawn.  The primer holes have been plugged but could be fixed. ;D

Sadly many fell victim to the WWII scrap drives.

Slim don't make me explain Parrott guns to ya. (Notice the 2 T's ;D)  I believe "Mr. Parrott's" first name was Robert.   Mr. Parrott was head of the West Point foundry from sometime in the 1850's through at least the Uncivil War.  I am at work and don't have all my referance material here.

(Slim thought they only built Army Officers at West Point New York. ;D)

A lot of the Parrott's were rifled, if not all. The Dahlgren's were smooth bores, they were the main armament of the Monitor class Navy ships in bores of 11" to 15". the original Monitors Dahlgren's are currently undergoing conservation at the Mariner's Museum in New Port News.....here's a URL for it-www.monitorcenter.org

Yes the Parrott guns were all rifled.   The were the best muzzleloading artillary that the US ever produced.  They were stronger and lighter than most of the smooth bores of the same bore size.

The Parrott was cast out of cast iron like most cannon, but the breech area was turned flat and smooth on a lathe.  Then a wrought iron band was turned to a size a few thousands larger on the inside.  This was heated red hot in a forge, expanding it slightly.  This was slipped over the machined part of the barrel and allowed to cool.  This renforced the breech and allowed the heavier charges of powder that the conical projectiles required with out adding massive amounts of weight.
