I have a Leatherman original (blades don't lock open) and a Swiss Champ.  Both useful in their own way.

Hey Forty, Went through a submarine today.Had to take sis-in-law up to the VA horsepistol up in Cleveland today for tests. Afterwards her and Susie suggested that I go to the sub. WW II U.S.S. Cod, only one in the country thats still in it's WW II configureation. After we got there, the girls wouldn't go below decks. But I did. took me about half hour to go from bow to stern. I also found that cowboy boots don't work well on those little verticle ladders in the hatches. A few less pounds and a couple inches shorter wouldn't be bad either................Buck 8) ::) ;)

Buck, the only sub I was ever in was at Disneyland about 30 years ago.

I personally never saw the fascination in a boat that sinks on purpose.  I also never liked my fellow man well enough to be sealed in a can with him for long periods of time (Anything over three seconds.).  What's next?  Jumping out of totally functional aircraft or strapping a rocket to your butt and getting shot up so high there ain't no air?

Glad you enjoyed it, though.

I've been on several WWII era ships.  We couldn't build any like that today.  The law wouldn't allow it.

Everything on those ships was deliberately designed to bump, trip, gash, clobber, pinch, or otherwise injure a sailot or visitor.  That is if it didn't asphyxiate, cook, or gas him first.

Hearing and sight damage is guaranteed in writing.

What did they do on their off time?  Tried to rest in a too-small cot or hammock, enjoyed the thrills of sea sickness, smelled everyone else's BO, tried to keep their eyeballs from rusting, or listened to the sweet, lulling sounds of a combat ship full of people just like them.  They could also anticipate the wonders of being swept overboard or blasted into fish food, being exposed to all of nature's vagaries such as frost, sun, and wind burn, and learning the positive aspects of sleep deprevation.

Nope, not for me.

Give me a nice snug foxhole with solid ground under me and people I can seriously grapple with, the soothing rythm of a Browning .30 or an M-60, my own little mud puddle and some bugs, and I'm happy.  An occassionale mortar or RPG round is a welcome addition to the tranquility, and you can always find a pet to share your bed with.  Step-and-a-half snakes or cobras were favorites.

K rats heated over a burning coil of C-4 can be a meal fit for a king, and you can become very close and protective of small  cans of room temperature Coke and beer.  Even Carling Black Label, Orion, and other lesser known brands have their afficionadoes.

Not really any tornaders to speak of last night, all the really bad skirted round Lincoln again.

Downtown Hastings they clossed the streets cause they were cover with glass, about 25% of the windows in down town broke.  Baseball size hail.  Grand Island has flooding around the Wood River, but they had 5-11 inches of rain in the Wood River Watershed.

I keep thinkin' you folks in nature-ravaged places should move to someplace like......

And then the thought ends as the mind goes blank.

Stay safe, warm, and dry.  A close approximation may have to do for now.

Least the ground don't shake often around here, thats scares me worse. ;D

Buck next time there is bad storms out here and yer not busy, just watch out local radar on yer computor.  I'm at the red dot on this map.

Watch the triangle formed by those three higways, the lake north it the famous Salt Flats, but they were flooded in the 1890 and formed into a lake.  Indian legand says the area around the salt flats is protected from bad storms.

I don't really belive it completley but it has proved so, or so far it has.   But when we had the bad night on May 22 last year it was an island of green in a sea of red.   Now watch, buck will drop in and watch my house get blowed away. :o

Delmonico, glad you survived it.... The hail bothers me more  than the threat or sighting of a funnel..Few years back, I was gathering cattle had hail storm blow in, was on a green horse he locked up, wouldn't move an inch. Stood in the pasture till it blew thru. The hail beat us and, I was really worried being in open country with the lightening flashin' around us. My cowboy hat looked like a car hood afterwards.  The minutes we stood out there seemed like a hour.
