Hey, I rode in an elevator with Davy Crockett in San Antonio** when he was making his Alamo movie in Brackettville, and he didn't look at all like Daniel Boone.  Thinkin' back on that experience, he did look a bit like Rooster Cogburn, though. :P

**He had an ear infection and was seeing an ear specialist in the Medical Arts Building where my mom worked at the time.

Capt. My friend and mentor Jim Burk worked on that one also, with Wayne. It was one of his first in a career of getting hurt horseback.

I'll tell you who said this if you'll tell me about whom he said it:  "He is universally despised by all the officers of his regiment  excepting his relatives and one or two sycophants."

You definitely know your Custer ;).  Statement was made by Major General David Stanley, commander of the Yellowstone Expedition.

That movie set is still a tourist attraction, and if you are ever in the vicinity, worth a stop and looksee.

Autie was a little full of himself, Cap'n.  After all that attention in the CW, the IW period was a definate let down for him........Buck 8) ::) ;)

Ya don't want to get me on a rant about Custer, I don't think the real Custer has ever been disscussed much.  Used to be he was made up as the big hero, the Lizzy died and he became the buffoon or tyrant.  I think the real man lies in the middle, not the best the army had to offer, but by far not the worst.

Startin' to sound like your old self, Del.  Musta sampled some a that LOG CABIN SARSAPARILLA I told you about ::).  Think you're probably pretty close with your assessment of GAC.  Just wanted to see who was familiar with the quote, not trying to make a statement about him.

Got my copy of Wild West today, there's another Custer article in there. Haven't had a chance to read it yet though.........Buck 8) ::) ;)

Mike Fink.  Right after a rather unsuccessful variation of the William Tell shot involving a cup of whisky (apple), flintlock (crossbow), and Carpenter (Tell's young son).

Buck, I bought that the other night and went right home and read it.  The fella that wrote it pretty well agrees with what I think.  I know one of the fellas who worked with the artifacts from the 1985 dig that Fox did.  But if we really knew what happened beyond a doubt, it would not be that interesting. ;D
