Cimarron Type 11, with new grips
« on: March 27, 2008, 10:08:45 AM »
Ok this is my first attempt at fitting grips.  I got them from Grip Maker and had to do some fitting work for sure.  Just in case you are wondering, it is 44 colt.   :D  What else is there?  Regards.  Deadeye.

Nice looking grips. I been thinking about putting new grips on mine. Have not been able to decide what to go with. Plain or with eagle on one side or checkered. And whos to go with. Just got mine back from Cimarron. It kept jamming after a two to three rounds. They did some extensive work on it. Have not tested it yet. How hard was it to fit your grips?

Well as I said this is my first try, so it took me some time.  The grips usually come at least a bit oversized so you will have to do some sanding/ filing to get them to fit properly.  The "one piece" grips come from Grip maker in 3 parts, the 2 halves and the spacer.  I found the spacer to be the hardest actually. You dont want to sand off too much so the glue will make good contact with the halves but you cant leave too much on or you will have wobbly grips.  I probably should have sent back the ones I got from him as they were too big, but I made do and sanded them.   Grips dont fit the same on every gun even the same model by the same manufacturer so some fit work will have to be done.  Larry (The Grip Maker) will send you ones pretty close and if they arent you can send them back for ones either a bit larger or a bit smaller.

Sorry to hear of your troubles with jamming.  Have you replaced the ejector rod yet?

THey replaced the ejector rod for me while they were working on it. Both Robert and Abilene at Cimarron did some extensive work on it. THey are still not sure why it kept jamming.

Does your ejector rod line up with the cylinder when in half cock for unloading? I finally got to shoot mine last Saturday and noticed that it did not line up. Had to turn the cylinder partially until it lined up.

I just checked it.  It is a bit off center as it passes through the hole but functions well.

Thanks TWF!   Not bad for a first try.  I have about as much talent for such things as you and Steel Horse do in your little fingers.
I am really looking forward to our shoot this Saturday.  The weather looks great for Saturday so far.

YEP!  I'm psyched!  (Mayhaps YOU could help with that, Don!  ;) )

I'm REALLY sorry that I missed the GLFMC shoot last weekend, too.  Wimpy or not.  Ya know - I'll only let Irish Dave and GW call me a wimp - THEY were the only ones with me around the fire and chuggin' GW's World Famous Cowboy Coffee those 2 shoots in December 2005 *  and a February, (2005 if I remember right.)  Anybody ELSE calls me a wimp, I'll just ask 'em where the heck THEY was them shoot days!!!  ;D

* Regarding this shoot: altho' I wasn't actually around the fire, I woulda been; if only I hadn't got sidetracked huntin' deer on the Interstate on the way there!  :o  ::)  :D
