Has anyone used Goex Cartridge with 300 grain bullets in their 76?
If so, how did it work out?

Thanks....

Kurt,
How was the accuracy & how much did U use.
I've just loaded some with 60 grains with 1/8 compression.

Yes, I'm interested in hearing this "good news" also.

The FIRST loads I loaded for my .45-60 were GOEX Ctg. & 300g bullets lubed w/SPG and I had TERRIBLE accuracy (call 'em "patterns" not groups :o ) and the WORST fouling I've ever seen with a BP rifle.

I attribute this more to the bullet's lube capacity (or lack of same) rather than the load itself.

My barrel was so crudded up that I couldn't see the rifling after ~8 shots.  (I don't think the bullets could either)

Check my posts in Smokeless In '76 Clones. I use a duplex load derived from 45-70 data. Use 8 gr. 4759 topped with a sufficient amt. of FFg to compress the load. Very accurate, clean, and gives about 1325 fps with a 300 gr. bullet.

Thanks Joe,

I'm aware of the duplex Smokeless/BP loads, I've just never tried them myself.

Several Trapdoor target shooters in my area shoot these duplex loads with (apparently) excellent results.

In my particular case I got one of the early Chaparral '76s in .45-60 a couple of years ago. (I'm on my 2nd one)

I'm using a different bullet than most others here use; mine's a 338g with 3 fairly good grease grooves (but probably still NOT enough)

I tried various loadings of GOEX 2F, GOEX "Ctg.", 5744 and Pyrodex R/S (Pyrodex was a new experience for me).

When the smoke cleared I ended up having EXCELLENT accuracy using the Pyrodex loads.

That's where "things" are at right now. ;)
