Any truth to the rumor that USFA is planning to discontinue the Lightning Rifle line?  That was the word going around the cracker barrel at my local gun shop.

Well, in general lightnings havent been getting alot of good press lately mainly because of the Taurus mess so demand may be down for them.   I had my FFL call Gary Granger last week as I was interested in getting one.  Unfortunately, Gary said they are currently out of production and he doesnt expect them to start again until the "end of the year".   This is not a good sign from where I sit.  Now I know that most gun makers do have production runs of various weapons.  Even Uberti does this.  USFA may simply be doing the same thing or your rumor may have some truth to it.  Time will tell.  I went ahead and ordered the Pedersoli 26 inch, blue in 44-40 from Cimarron as they had one ready to go.  I have heard that both USFA and Pedersoli make fine Lightnings.   I hope USFA can deliver on the Remingtons.  Gary Granger may wish to comment on the Lightning rumor.

I also noticed the new 2008 price guide does not list the Lightnings.  I am glad I have one already because it is a fun gun to shoot.

What is this 'Taurus mess' you speak of?

Go over to the SASS wire and do a search.  You will find plenty.  In a nut shell,  they are bad rifles, dont work as advertized, are not backed up by the company and are now out of production.

I bought a USFA Lightning in .44-40 several months ago.  It works about as well as the Taurus.  In other words it doesnt' work for snot.  It's in the safe gathering dust with some other bad investments.

Ouch!  What are the problems with your Lightning?  USFA will unquestionably stand behind their products.  Have you contacted them?

There is a lifetime guarantee on USFA firearms.  Call Gary Granger.  This is the first I have heard of anyone having problems with the USFA Lightning.
