The good news is I pick up my new Uberti '73 in .44 WCF tomorrow!

The bad news is I have to "go do some Army stuff" for a couple weeks in Wi., have to hit the road at 0300 fri. morning.

I remember reading a thread about new Uberti's having EXTREME torque on fasteners, and the recommendation was to use KROIL or something similiar on key fasteners before attempting to take one down.

My question is....since my quality time will be VERY limited the next 24 hours, could one of you old hands here post the link to that thread, or refresh my memory? It would be a good time to let the new baby soak while gone.

Rest assured, we will stop by the range on the way home and put a box of ammo through it first!  ;)

Thanks for the help, and I apologize for the repetition.

Howdy!

There's a bit of an easier way, if interested.  It involves taking off either sideplate first (I did the R side, but both will come off in the process) and then you relieve the tension of the spring.  My bottom screws (the ones torgued by the 900 lb gorilla) came out easily without further damage - they'd already been damaged while I ATTEMPTED to get both free.  I got one, but wasn't able to get the other until I removed the sideplate.

On the last few new '73's that I've worked on, I've been able to loosen the lever and carrier spring screws on the bottom by putting the screwdriver tip in the slot (Brownells #5 screwdriver, not totally perfect fit but pretty close) and wacking the butt of the screwdriver with a hammer a couple times, then really leaning into the screw as I tried to turn it.  They were tough but they did come loose.  If that doesn't work, try the tricks of removing the sideplates, etc.

good luck.
