Huge fan of the "suregrip"coating on the FRAM filters my own self; however, still have to use a wrench to pull them off.... :-\

Lots of "gas-bag'n" in different forums {go figure} 'bout personal opinions but came across some studies that actually cut open filters new and used....

Generally all said FRAM had it's day but now way too cheaply made with a bunch of other "Name Brands" by an outfit called Champion Labs.....  Seems to be that they make a full spectrum of quality of junk {FRAM}, somewhat good {Bosch}, good {AC Delco}.....  ???  ???  ???

The better was Purolator {Mann & Hummel} & Hastings/Baldwin {CLARCOR Company who specialize in heavy truck 'n farm'n}...  8)

Purolator is actually a joint company of Bosch with Mann & Hummel but the Bosch filters are farmed out to Champion Labs...  ???

I think I'll try the Purolator filters for awhile... gotta get the Baldwin filters from Grangers.....

We sold several brands at the Parts store, Fram, Purolater, Wix, and AC Delco were the main sellers. We used those four brands in our garage as well.

Wix was the contractor for NAPA when I was there. Word from behind the counter was use the silver on newer stuff 'n gold on the older. Used silver when I had the l'il black one. These days it's whatever Xpress Lube sticks on the station wagon.

Stopped usin' Fram years ago when the counterfeit stuff hit the shelves. Last I heard it still shows up now 'n again.

When I get down to it I've only had a problem with one filter 'n that was a long, long time ago. Threads were messed up 'n it wouldn't go on. Fat lady – who weren't fat then – weren't home with the car so there I sat. Don't remember what brand that'n was.

Arcey, It looks like our boy Michael will be in Philly one more year. That makes me feel better, I was hoping that Dallas would not trade for him. Thank goodness for small favors.

Lately I've been using filters out of Federated. Made by Hastings, so they should be fairly good. When I still had the Fords,I usually tried to use the Motorcrafts if I could find them reasonable enough. The vehicles I have now call for either syn-blends or full synthetics. the hamster lists either full syn or the syn blend, the zoom-zoom wagon calls for syn only, no options, and in 0W-20 to boot. Hamster's 5W-20. ::) :-\ 8)

I use Pennzoil 5/20 in the trucks and the Cadillac uses Mobil-1. We use GM filters for the oil.  The Cadillac dealership changes the oil in it and jiffy lube does the trucks.

5 20 in the station wagon too. The stuff in Andi's Civic looks like 3 In 1..............

Ain't that I don't like the Vick deal cuz I do. That said, this guy ain't stupid. He knows Vick's short comin's as well as anyone by now. I wonder what the angle is.

I just hope the Cowboy's famous GM, Jerry Jones, doesn't decide that they don't need him as Romo's backup.

They had a little get together yesterday during practice, so at least 3 will be in backup cars for the Shoot Out. The fab shops in Charlotte will be busy rebulding cars next week for the 125s ahead. A lot of midnight oil will be burnt.

Ol Gerhart has just been waiting around, he's now in front. That Milka Duno is a cutie. She led for awhile till she had problems with her shifter linkage messed up. She's 5 laps down and the linkage is fixed. She has got a good car, maybe she can back up front, the race is only half over. ARCA needs to ditch those POS Hoosier tires. Hoosier makes good dirt track tires, but not NASCAR tires.

Arcey, If that Civic's pretty new, that's probably that 0w-20 stuff, full syn to boot. Most places, it's about $8 a qt.. talked to the zoom-zoom dealership yesterday about cost of an oil change...............$70! :o :o :o :o I can get Wolf's Head full syn in that weight for $4.79/qt., plus a filter for about $6( why that much, I have no clue). It takes 5 liters+, will need 6 qts. to cover, so, about $38-9 bucks and it'll be done as long as I get a warm enough day after my no lift/exercise time is over( another week). The Hamster has an appointment Thursday for the 15,000mile service check up. Good thing I got the mileage rebate card, this service runs around $300. I can cover it with that and still have a little left on it. Nice thing about this is I get to recharge the card every year we still own the car, pays us for driving it ::)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Arcey

Sounds right, Buck. It's awful thin. While the thing was titled to me the dealership ate the oil changes. She still takes it there so maybe they don't know it's all hers now.

Fun 'n games yesterevenin'. Maybe they can get thru Thursday without tearin' up half the field.
