I am now a member of the re-loading crowd!  Got me one of those Lee reloading kits for under $20 from Cabela's, primers and powder from the local Gander Mountain, and bullets from Midway.  Followed the instructions that come with the Lee kit, and presto!!  Reloads in .45 LC for my Uberti 1875!  It was so easy, I wish I had bought one of those kits a long time ago.  May get some for a few other calibers as well.   ;D

It`s a way to start reloading ..I remember starting that way because I couldn`t afford store bought bullets for deer hunting ...many moons ago ....It won`t be long and you`ll start eyeballing the price of the Lee bench mount loading press ..sure wiill speed things up , and you be able to get a full resize on your cases ..The hand loader will only resize the neck , which will work in most rifles , the pistols with conversion cylinders are a little pickey about the sizeing. Have fun and be safe , lots of good advice on here don`t be afraid to ask questions .

I started reloading a couple years ago so I could afford to shoot more.

Yankee Will;  the next step is to cast your own bullets.  That's another one of those things that is easier than you think.  Tonight I hope to crank out 150 "big lube" bullets.  With what I have, that should get me through the next shoot.

The LEE set I'd recommend to reloaders of all levels of experience is the LEE HAND PRESS.

Black Powder

I'm planning on shooting the holy black and figured/assumed I'd shoot Goex Black Dawge initially.  At $29/box, it ain't cheap.  Can you folks give me an idea how much rolling your own .45 cal would be in comparison?  Just curious what the payback is on a machine.

Still haven't fired my first shot from the new Model P.  I believe the consensus is to NOT shoot smokeless if the plan is to shoot bp.  Just in case the range doesn't carry Dawge, I shouldn't shoot a box of smokeless instead, right?

Thanks.

I put my adding machine to the cost of reloading a few years ago ...If I remember right , with me useing store bought bullets my Black powder 45`s were costing around 10 bucks a box ..My smokeless were 6 bucks a box ..the prices have gone up since but to keep the cost down I now cast my own bullets and pan lube ...So I`m still keeping the price down . There is the time factor , and some folks just don`t have the time ..Me being retired gives me all the time I need for the reloading hobby .
I should mention to further keep cost down I buy my Black Powder by the case 25 lbs at a time , so a can is only costing me 10 bucks ..

As Elmer Fudd says, BE VEWWY, VEWWY CAREFUL ;D

I don't save a cent reloading, 'cause I have purchased every item known to man since I got started 30 years ago, I can't even count the number of presses, lead pots, die sets, I have! Not to mention bullet moulds, brass, powder, primers, OH THE HUMANITY ;D

I keep telling myself I wanna get into the reloading game but, I still keep putting it off.  I hear it is a great deal of fun & folks do save some serious coinage.

I was kind of forced into it because I shot so much in practice.  ;D  I'll tell you it is fun when you get it right. When you get it wrong you end up taking bullets out of the bore. >:( Then you try black powder and it is new again.  8)

Picked up a Lee Heratiage press when I first started CAS.  Had everything I needed to get started for $80.  Stainless Steel Dies were the best way to go for me.  Played around with a lot of combinations of primers, powers, and bullets just for giggles.  There is a lot of satisfaction knowing I'm the one that but the loads together.  But there is also no one else to blame for squib or hot loads.  Would like to try reloading shotgun next.

Well, to be perfectly honest here.  Since I have decided to get back into the C&B revolvers on a serious level, I really have no need to get reloading equipment I guess.  I will ponder the idea a little more.

General ...there`s always the conversion cylinders to consider ..They sure make the Remmies fun on those cold days when it`s just a little to uncomfortable to load cap and ball ..and at 30 bucks a box of 45 bullets , reloading starts to look mighty good .
I shoot my Remmies with conversion more than I do my 1873 Colt clones ..My 1858`s just feel better in hand from so much use .

Sundance, you might be onto something there my friend.  I do have an R&D conversion cylinder for one of my 58's but have never used it as of yet.  I hear you when you talk about the cost of a box of .45LC's.  I may have to reconsider my reconsidering, lol.
