Thanks Del  ;D

When we came down from the mountain yesterday my dad was sure to ask me if the snakes were coming out yesterday. Still a little too cold. No lizards either. First we see the lizards then the snakes here. Got snake shot for my pistols this year. :)

The new Taurus Judge is perfect for that.  Compact revolver that chambers .45 AND 4/10.  A snake killer for sure.

Got in a fight one time with a Blacksnake about 7 1/2 foot long, non-poisonious, but nasty, bites and will constrict and likes old buildings, thinks they own them.  Durn thing wasn't lettin' folks in the outhouse.  Didn't have either a shotgun or snake shot that day.  Got cornered by the thing, 'tween a tree and the outhouse with it coiled and wantin' to bite me.  Remembered what Ol' Elmer said, did a quick point at it and shoot.  Yep Elmer was right, it did the rest, don't really know if it was the bullet or the hot gases from a full case of H110, but it became headless. ;D

Prefer the 28 and a #9 skeet load for dealin' with them, what few rattlers we have around here are only about 2 1/2 feet long and real shy. ;)

Not much damage to that F-3.  He wasn't moving very fast when he shoved that wall over.

Del, about 1952-1953 we saw a UP 2-8-8-2 "Challenger" that had its tender backed into a turntable pit in Omaha.  You never saw so many people standing around scratching thier heads.  I'd like to find a picture of that.

Of course this one is well known, ya've heard the song, have you seen the picture?

Sept 27th, 1903 near Danville Virginny.

Well they gave him his orders at Monroe, Virginia,
Said: "Steve, you're way behind time,
"This is not 38, this is Ol' 97,
"Put her into Spencer on time."

Then he turned around and said to his black, greasy fireman,
"Shovel on a little more coal.
"And when we cross that White Oak mountain,
"Watch Ol' '97 roll."

And then a telegram come from Washington station,
This is how it read:
"Oh that brave engineer that run ol 97,
"Is lyin in old Danville dead."

'Cos he was going down a grade making 90 miles an hour,
The whistle broke into a scream.
He was found in the wreck with his hand on the throttle,
Scalded to death by the steam.

Oh, now all you ladies you'd better take a warning,
From this time on and learn.
Never speak hard words to your true-lovin' husband.
He may leave you and never return.
Poor Boy.

Chicago, Burlington & Quincy.  The Burlington/Santa Fe today.  They run a line from Lincon to Billings MT, still in use today, mostly coal out of MT and WY, goes right north of our imaginary Ranch With No Name.  One of the main yards is about a 1/2 mile south of me.  PIA right now. got the Viaduct tore up I use to go to work, I wait for a lot of coal trains anymore. ::)

A lot of the rail lines in Newbrassky were built by them, a lot of the old locals are gone now, they truck the grain now.
