Which is your preference?

I've tried the shorter lengths, but can't seem to hit good with anything but the 7.5-8" barrels. I do like the handling of the 5.5" though.

Well, you can usually shoot a short barrel a little faster.  However, it doesn't make any difference if you can't hit anything.  So get the longer barrels.

My 5.5 Uberti 1858 shoots as well as any of the 7.5 barrel Remmies I own ..I`ve never shot a Pietta 5.5 ..If I buy another one it will be Uberti .

Unless you've got a compelling reason that says you gotta go with something different, go with what you're good at.  Consistency isn't boring.

I've got my excuses and I'm stickin' to 'em.

Historically the made far more 7 1/2s.  If that makes any differences to you.

I shoot my 5 1/2 '75 better than any other cowboy gun that I own.
I've handled both lenghts and there is very little difference to me.

You should go with what you shoot best.

I like both lengths. For CAS, I prefer 5.5 for the handling but accuracy seems to be about the same with either.

I like the looks of the 7.5  and 8 inch ones better.  Haven't shot anything shorter so I can't compare.
Well, are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?

I was just wondering what you guys were shootin.

I like the '58 in 8" the best, and would like to try the longer buffalo model.

Every Rem 5.5" model I've fired, just didn't feel as good as the long barrel. I like the looks of them though.

It would be a task to build, but it would be neat to try a 3" 'sheriff' model.

Smoke em if ya got em.

I shoot a   71/2 uberti  in millinium  finish  with 45 lc  R& D conversion  cylinder in my right hand and  and a  stainless 51/2 uberti  in my strong sided left hand (also 45lc R& D conversion ) I havent shot enough lately to determine  accuracy  but I sure like the  feel of the 51/2  better than any of  my colts or rugers.

Sundance44's,

That is a very nice lookin snubbie (good thing my hacksaw is lockedup in the shed right now). I don't think it would look that purdy w/o the dirds head grip...which would be a little more difficult to do than just wacking the barrel.
