Walt is starting to produce a 5 shot Konverter for the 1860, similar to the one used in the 1858.  It will chamber .45 Schofield, .45 Cowboy special, and handloaded 45 colt that are a tad shorter than factory rounds.  SHould have the first ones available in a couple months at most.  I will be getting the first one to try out and will keep you posted.

Any idea if this and the 1863 will be drop in only or available with breech loading and/or loading gate?

Tuolumne Lawman

It will have a loading gate, but can be used as a drop in.

Walt told me that ALL of his Konvertor Rings now have a "gate". There is no longer a tab on the gate (as the Remington model had) and he has cut a milled groove in the back (sort of like the RM conversion gate). This allowed him to standardize and only make one model. If the revolver is not ported the ring appears solid, if you elect to port the recoil shield then you can open the "gate" with your thumbnail. This also eleviates the problem of the "tab" catching or hanging up on the holster!

Thank you for the information.  Sounds sweet now if there was an extra cylinder like the 58 Remington and Ruger Old Army in 45 acp makes it even more fun to plink around with.

Actually, you can thank me.  I did.  I have been bugging him since I first contacted him early in 2007 about doing my article (February and March 2008 CC). He didn't want to do it because with his recoil plate design he could not make it long enough for factory 45 Colt loads.  I pointed out that Kenny Howell was getting all the 1860 business, and many folks use .45 schofield or .45 Cowboy now.  I seriously bugged him several times a month for the last year.  I also pointed out that he is already making a Richards style ejector for the 1858s, so.....

I know, being a pain, but not only 45 Schofield or Cowboy or handloaded 45 Colt but I have enjoyed the
heck of running relatively cheap 45 acp out of a Remington revolving carbine and a Ruger Old Army.

Thanks then.. I'll get one for my other 2nd Gen. ( I've waited 2 years for Kenny Howell's gated version)
