Wish I had snapped a pic... HRAC someone modified

I saw something just like this that someone had made. The barrel setup looked a bit different, but, essentially someone's attempt at making a HRAC rifle into a Uberti 1860 Henry.

it looked like someone had put work into it. It had a sign that said, "The rifle HRAC will NEVER make".

It was chambered in 44mag and the engraving was different than what comes from HRAC.
The barrel and magtube looked like they were cut from the same piece of steel. (I later found out they had machined it from bar stock and then gun drilled to fit a rifled sleeve in it)

It did look slick, though.

As mod, I would grant the rifle owner membership to this area of the forum just for taking an effort such as that.

Now there is an enigma .....

the gun that never was ... but is  ... lobbied SASS Legal ,  then made illegal by the rules for externalized mods  ???

A mechanical oxymoron    ::)

Well ...........................

I haven't played with an HRAC rifle.  Nobody had brought me one for work and I haven't actually seen one an any of the four clubs I shoot at so I can't speak for their mechanical stuff.
I don't personally care if it's SASS legal or not.  Not my decision.  Also, personally, I wouldn't shoot one even with a Henry pattern barrel assembly.
I do however, have to agree with Will Ketchum.  Still a PIG.

Looks like one of those fake engraved 'guns' that Classic Arms sells as decorators.

Beyond that, Ketchum's words are almost poetic...

I have seen gold plated hi-point pistols at some shows... that truely is a "pig with lipstick" on it.

I am less inclined to attack the smith or owner who did the mod I was talking about. It was effort put forth on an all American made levergun. (no, not period correct, but, it was still not all that shabby to look at)

I meant no dis-respect to the gunsmith.

I simply meant it's paradox ,  that is... it's apparently a contradiction that is actually true.

The HRAC is a textbook case of what went wrong with SASS. History & authenticity be damned!! We'll just lobby long & hard enough and make the "gamer's" cry for it!!

I won't get into PC, and I love my 1860 Henry and am no fan of HRAC, but anybody that does that amount of work is OK by me.

Dakota, you wrote it look "something" like the one you show.  Are we to infer that you made that one up digitally?  I note that it has a Henry barrel (with it's way of loading) along with a loading gate.  That doesn't make sense unless it's just a way of illustrating what the one you saw looked like ;)

I have no opinion one way or the other about Henry Repeating Arms....
Lou Imperato is the CEO , he brought us the F series 2nd Gen. BP Colts under the subcontractor agreement with Colt in the 70's.
Then in 1993 , at the very same address that HRAC is today he started Colt Blackpowder Arms Co. where
the 3 Gen. so called Signature Series Colts were made.....
It is my understanding HRAC first lever action 22 cal were Lou's design, and have sold in high numbers.
Kudos's to the man ( any man or woman  ) who would jump through the hoops & sticky red tape , to open a US based , US made FIREARMS Company in these days liberal stone walling.  I like that " In your face " attitude.
Bill Ruger , and the fine folks at USPA who went from a Uberti Importer to a US manufacturer have reached almost exalted positions.

Though the Henry Big Boy does not appeal to me , nor do I care SASS embraced it were NCOWS does not....
I'm happy to see the attempt, by a Company to produce Firearms in the USA,  rather than see the sale of the Old names overseas.

Smith & Wesson (now happily back), Winchester, Remington, Ithaca ?

JMHO others may vary

I have to agree.  I'm cringing at the thought of buying weapons that are American Icons that aren't even made here.
for example:
I have an M14 made by The Springfield Armory... where's my trapdoor!??!!?!  Italy!
I have two custom 1911 Colt .45 Gov't Models, made by Colt in 1973... where's my proper "peacemaker"... USFA (at least they're American!) and... you guessed it! Italy!
why?!  Colt is sooo snobbish they cost a fortune and because of that, people in general don't want to use them when you can own 5 Uberti's for the same price, and their action isn't as good as the USFA!!! (again, at least USFA is American, I love them now.)

another example
a person wants a sports car, but without the money involved, they buy a Toyota or something else, why?
they're "cheaper" than American!
I'm even pissed the Mustang and new Camaro aren't even being made here! they are made in Canada!
and people wonder why the "big three" are hurting!! or the workers are getting laid off!!!

so, God Bless USFA, Ruger, and yes, even HRAC... at least they are made here, with American hands, eye, and ingenuity.

I also agree it stinks that HRAC won't make the rifle that they got their name from.
doesn't mean I wouldn't rather own a HRAC Big Boy than an Uberti.
sorry, can't do it, no matter if the Uberti were on sale for $1!!!

but, then again, that's why my first rifle will be a Marlin.  Then during my gunsmithing school's rifle build, I'm building my own Sharps as my first scratch-built rifle (simplest) and then moving on to the Spencer and maybe even the Springfield.  Also looking into my Remingtons.

why?  because they are American Icons, and deserve to be born here, not shipped here.

sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now.
