How About Some Quality Buckles for a Change?

I talked with the foundry this afternoon.  They experienced some technical difficulties with sprue placement.  It was causing a problem with shrinkage around the heavy bar in back that holds the tongue.  They are goin' to have to figure out a new placement for the sprues so they can still get good molten flow, but avoid the problems with cooling and shrinking.  There will be another casting yet this week, so I will have some, but not all, next week.

So, there ya' have it.  A little delay, but it will result in a better product.

Will hasn't made the oval ones yet. So far, the square ones are all he has on the way. Keep checking his site or here to see when he gets them going. I guess the wax originals are a considerable bit of work so it takes time to get the first ones made.

Hey Folks,

I got the first of the Silver buckles and Silver "Hand of God" Crucifixes in Monday.  I've got a link to my webpage for 'em if you want to take a gander.

WOW!!! How'd I miss those?

I'm gonna change my mind on the rectangular buckles.  I like these a lot better.  I can wait.

I talked with the founder this morning.  He is continuing to work to get the best quality castings possible with the buckles.  He will be shipping a partial order.  I may not get it this week.  He is casting again tomorrow, Friday 8FEB08, with a new sprue set-up and molten metal temperature.  There is both art and science combined in casting metals.  Each new product has it's own flow properties.  These sturdy buckles have their own properties.  The founder is experimenting to get the best quality casting possible.  Unfortunately, at this point, that means a high percentage of buckles that get melted down again.

I told the craftsman we were willing to put up with the initial delays as he works all the bugs out.  In the end, it will result in a superior product.  We should have heirloom quality buckles that add value to your leathercraft.

I'm in agreement with this. A better buckle is worth the wait. Many thanks.

OK, I haven't been following this thread. I like brass, but I haven't seen them mentioned as being made yet, or did I miss something? I would be up to buying 5 brass buckles, square type. Don't like silver. Maybe 'cause all my old Sheriff Dept's duty belts were brass, and I kinda got used to it. Silver was the PD.

Slim,

Go to page 6 and the first post by Will lists Silver, white bronze, bronze & BRASS.  Go to Will's web site and you will be able to order them.  They have not been shipped to Will yet.

Hey Guys,

I got some good news.  The foundry sent out a partial order Wednesday the 13th.  I should get it by this weekend.  It's only 23 buckles and 9 Crucifixes, but it's a start.  I'll start filling orders based on who sent their money in first.  I don't think there are enough buckles to cover everyone who has sent in an order, but I'll start workin' on it.  Now that the foundry has their tricks pretty much worked out for this buckle, I should start gettin' 'em every week until they get caught-up on my orders.

Thanks for hangin' in there with me.

Will
