I have a 75 emf outlaw. shoots great with the old car leaf spring on the hammer. I have ordered at least 2 wolf springs , but when they are installed I only get about 80% fireing on the first hammer fall they then go off on the 2nd try. Very frustrating, as you might guess. Always end up putting back the original spring. Any suggestions?   Thanks for any replies.    jt

If your original spring has the thick bottom and the Wolff has the thin bottom you need to put a shim in there to take up the space.

Check the length and make sure the new springs are the same length as your originals. Longer or shorter can cause problems, too.

There is not a lot of difference between these clones and the SAA clones internally. That being said the most of the same rules apply, like:

Does the hammer drag in the frame? (evidenced by drag marks on it's sides)
What primers are you using? (some reduced springs will not ignite primers with harder cups)
Is the spring shorter than the original? (as mentioned before)

A lighter mainspring is not always the cure for a "heavy" trigger and a proper trigger job might be in your best interest. Remember that by using a lighter hammer spring you are increasing lock time!

Good luck on ya!

I had the "truck or mongo" spring in my EMF outlaw also.  I recently switched to the mainspring from VTI.  I have not shot with it yet but I am not anticipating any problems as it still seems to have enough energy ingnite the primers.  We shall see.

Trap, your problem is far more common than people believe. I have two '72 Open Tops & one will fire everything with a Wolff hammer spring & the other won't. Go figure. A better solution would be to lighten the factory hammer spring through CAREFUL filing.

Agree w/FCK's words. Mine took two hands to cock when new. I adjusted the spring using a sanding wheel (Coarse & Fine grits) for my power drill. Much easier to tune than the colt, due to the Remington's tension-adjusting screw. BTW, the flat main-springs in most Italian CAS guns I've seen were made from investment casting ;D

Check the frame for excess flash from the casting, too...mine was full of it.
