Hi gents,
Has anyone re-lined or sleeved a Spencer scattergun? Or know anyone who has.
Thanks,

Gents,

Well I got a "ballpark" figure of $700 to re sleeve a Spencer.
It looks like I got my first wall-hanger. ;D

Why does it need sleeving??
Is it rotted out??
$700 might be corrrect, but sounds pretty steep to me.
It might be a better option to see if you can get it rebarreled.
Sleeving it may change the bore down to a 16 or 20ga.

I am very fortunate, my Spencer (a true Spencer and not a Bannerman) has a wonderful bore - whoever had it first, took care of it.
That being said, I have ONLY shot The Holy Black out of it and they were only light loads - 50gr of 2f and 1 oz of shot.
They also come with short chambers - 2 1/2 to 2 5/8 inches, not today's SAMMI spec 2 3/4".
The breech/carrier is reasonable safe considering it is one block of steel.
The real buggaboo is the bore - since they came with damascus barrels and not rolled "steel".
You need to find a gunsmith that knows damascus barrels and have him test it.
Remember, the welds holding the barrel together are well over 100 years old and likely closer to 120.

Many things to consider, not the least of which do you feel safe shooting the gun.
I still think, your best bet is finding (good luck - not sarcasm) finding someone to take a 12ga barrel blank and having it threaded and turned down to be fit on your Spencer.

Good luck and let me know how you make out.

gunner,

thanks for the help, did you get my email?
Can you recommend any gunsmiths? I don't know of
anyone in Tucson that could inspect it. The barrel is pitted,
but it seems solid(famous last words).
Know anyone who would rebarrel it?
regards,
