Just talked to my brother, his season was short, he said he was with in a minute either way of it being really leagal, took him a bit to get goin' this mornin' and was a bit late gettin' to his stand he uses for rifle huntin' a lot, it was there waiting to be shot I guess.   He said them loads I load him have a lot of muzzle flash, whinin' again about the bullet not exitin', guess he needs a 45-70 with a 500 gr.  He said the bullet is in the rear ham again on a frontal chest shot, said it took the hair off right there so it must have wanted to exit.  Guess that ai'n to bad for a 270 with a 130 gr.

Howdy, pards. Been to the auto auction and finished rigging my wife's sidecar. It'll all need to be done again after I make a new mount for it, but at least I know the target positioning, now.

They're the ones I'm really waiting to try. It'll be good to see what they can do.

So I've learned.

Our indoor doesn't allow any black powder, even though they have a ventilation system that will knock you down.

Ya might try some softer boolits. It will probably stop the leading.

I just read an article, "Loading Cast and Jacketed Bullets" by Dave Scovill, in the Dec. 2007 Handloader mag. Among other things, it talks about the use of too had of boolits for the velocity and pressures of your gun. It causes leading because "the base of the bullet cannot expand (obturate) to form a gas seal. This allowed combustion gas to escape past the heel, eroding the surface of the driving bands. The result was a deposit of lead alloy in the chamber throat, forcing cone and barrel. Not only was leading contributing to lousy accuracy, but excessive friction caused by the buildup of leading occasionally caused a low-velocity relatively hard cast bullet to lodge in the barrel." That is a small sampling of the great info in this article that pertains to CAS. Y'all should pick up a copy. A cosie we all know pretty much has told me the some things that are in the article.

Will, are those samples you got coming from Penn the softer alloy? They offer you a choice of alloys, a softer CAS type and a somewhat harder one for autos and higher velocity revolvers.

He knows I'm using them for CAS, so I expect they'll be the softer ones.

Most store bought bullets use what is called the Taraco Alloy, 2% tin, 6% antimony and 92% lead.  This was developed in the 80's for the IPSC shooters who were mostly using 38 Super for the top shooters, it is the cheapest and hardest alloy that gives a a very high percentage of good castings.

You have any idea what the formula for the softer "20:1" bullets might be? Does that tell me 20 parts lead to 1 part tin?

OK, just sold 4 horse shoes, (00 Diamond Saddle Lite) guy want to know if the nails came with them, when I told him no, he counted and said 8 holes per shoe, guess I need 32.  Sold him a box of 100, gawd I hope the horse survives.

I can only hope so, I ain't no farrier, but some of these guys scare me sometimes.

Lessee, ya gotta trim tha hoof.  Then ya gotta fit tha shoe.  Then ya gotta nail tha shoe on.  Then ya gotta cut tha nails. Then ya gotta rasp tha nail line. Then ya gotta crimp the nails and shoe for a tight fit.  I got most of tha tools and I don't think I would try shoeing my own horse! 

Course this fella might be one a them experts what done read all about it and knows more'n most!
