Two Flints

Hello Two Flints,

I thought you might appreciate this since you own and shoot a Spencer "pump" Shotgun.

We are planning to add 12 gauge 2-5/8" as a standard catalog offering. We will also be
adding 10 gauge 2-5/8" They should be listed as a catalog item by early next month.

Best regards,

Terry

Hay Two Flints,
Thanks fer postin' this, but it do raise a question fer me. Got a Spencer (not Bannerman) shotgun on the way and hope it's shootable. Are they p'ticular about length of shell? Never occurred to me to think (as is so often the case). What have you found works best?

Thanks,
Hard Mouth

Two Flints

The Spencer shotguns were made to shoot 2 5/8" shells.  The Republic Metallic Cartridge Company (of Maine) is very accomodating and will make these sized shells for you with black powder.  http://www.republicmetallic.com

The first shells they made for me were with: Express shot 12 gauge, 2 1/2 #7 1/2 shot with 3 drams of Shuetzen black powder with 1 1/8 oz lead shot; plastic or paper hulls, your choice.

One of my two Spencer shotguns had serious problems; it was a cheapo purchase, and one of our SSS members replaced the firing pin for me and shortened the barrel for better deep woods shooting.

Email or PM me if you have any other questions,

Two Flints

Tubac

Hi Two Flints,

Are the Spencer shotgun barrels damascus steel?

Tubac

Two Flints

Tubac,

Yes, the Spencer shotguns have the damascus steel barrels.I had the firing pin on my first Spencer shotgun replaced and it was test fired.  As much fun as shooting these guns is, safety is the prime consideration, and one should never, ever consider shooting a Damascus, twist or laminated-steel barreled shotgun without first having it inspected by a truly competent gunsmith.

This is a copy of the directions that came with every Spencer Shotgun sold.

Two flints,
I dunno Damascus barrels scare me.
Were they re-proofed?

Two Flints

Tubac,

No, I don't think mine were re-worked; they are all original as when first produced.  I understand your concern about the barrels.  My wife took out an extra insurance policy on me just in case ;D
Because of "safety" concerns they are no longer allowed in SASS sanctioned matches.

Why the interest?  Were you planning to buy one?  I noticed quite a few of the Spencer shotguns are listed on the auction sites Gunbroker and GunsAmerica.  They seem to be over priced IMO.  Too expensive if you are looking for just a wallhanger.

Two Flints,
They look pretty neat and I was halfway thinking of looking for one.
I didn't know that they were damascus barreled. >:(
They're too dangerous for someone like me, who don't comprende "wall hanger". ;D

Two Flints,
Thanks for the intro to Mr Boudreaux. I emailed him about my concerns.
I'll let you know what happens.

Gunner

Howdee Two Flints,

May I share the info you provided on the "new" BP shells by RMCC for the pards in LASSOOS, and, where did you find the instructions for the Spencer Repeating Shotgun?

Hi Gunner,

Sure, you can share that info from RMCC; it is up to date and they are very good at responding to Emails.  Also, the Spencer Shotgun directions came from the Marcot book.  I just scanned those pages and posted them, in case anyone was interested in seeing them.
