60 army grip on 51 navy frame

I kinda think I already know the answer to this is "yes", but just to make sure...  Does the 1860 army grip frame fit onto a 51 navy? (I ask realizing that hand fitting may be required.)   I have seen several SAA's with the 1860 grip frame on them.  It looks to be rather longer than the standard navy grip.  My big hands simply cannot tolerate the stubby two finger grips so common on these types of guns.

Troublesome River

Howdy all,
I've seen '60 Army's with '51 grip frames and vice versa, If using parts from the same company should be no problem except for maybe needing a little fitting-Troublesome

I recall Uberti offered their SAA Cattleman with optional Army grips a couple of years back. Their Open Top is available with either Army or Navy grip.

Wolf ...I took no offence at all  :)

Recently, I helped my nephew complete his German course of study to get his HS diploma.
It brought back memories

I was confused by Deutschstunde  "stunde" = hour ?  German Hour ?

Stunde = hour, but in this connection - Deutschstunde = German lesson or German course.
I was pleased to note that a couple of R2s finally made it to the US but in the wrong caliber, namely .45 Colt.
Next season I will only shoot OTs as my main match guns. Just obtained my 2nd one. Both have the Army grip, 7,5" barrel and the right caliber .44 Colt, of course. The new one is shooting to POA, the old one from 2002 shoots 6" high and to the left.
But I am stealing Stophel's thread, sorry about that.

Hey, carry on!  You all are probably better at it than I am.  I'm very out of practice, plus I never knew that much to begin with.  I speak "18th century Martin Luther Bible" German.  I also know all my "gun words" and can thoroughly describe a flintlock rifle from Muendung zum Kolbenplatte.

I see now that a front and back strap would cost me about a hundred bucks!  Wow.  I think I'll just solder me a bit of brass on the bottom to extend the grip out some... ;)

You did a fine job on the Remy you did...  :)
There was a guy a while back that had some parts for sale... grips,  frames etc. Maybe he'd let an Army grip frame go.

Wolf,  I ordered a Type II almost 21 months ago , it would have been in 45 LC... I planned to use 45 Sch and pair with my
OT in the same Cal.
While waiting, I lucked into a Type I  prototype in a trade then found another Kenny Howell Type I  & bought it.
I still have not heard if mine Type II is in the country...  frankly,  I believe I'll wait for a 44 anyway.

Stophel,
You're wanting to change from Navy grip to Army grip.  Well, there's probably someone out there wanting to do the opposite.  Put an ad in the SASS Wire Classifieds (I say that just because it gets a lot of traffic) and you certainly might find someone wanting to trade.  Others have done so.  Good luck!

Wolf,  Good to see you on the wire but why the alias change? I was just starting to recognise Bootsie.
Just so Y'all can get your gun lesson for the evening, there is only one difference between the 1851/61 mainframe and the 1860 Army mainframe...that cute little step cutout for the slightly enlarged cylinder for the 1860. Colt had an excellent idea on how to gain bore size economically (read that CHEAP), step the frame and cylinder and make the cylinder walls thinner. Then lengthen the gripframe to handle the added recoil.

FYI: You can mate Uberti gripframes to Piettas, Pietta gripframes to Ubertis, Colt gripframes to either one and then throw the Armi San Marcos guns in there for good measure. There are also at least 5 different gripframe sizes/configurations for the various 1851/61/73 guns which all have the same gripframe and now (thanks to Wolf and his friends at Armi Sao Paulo) 8 different ones for the 1860 Armies. That is why we now require an outline tracing of gripframes to insure proper fitting grips are sent to our customers. And, as Wolf can tell you, I don't always get it right then.  If variety is the spice of life, I will need stock in Rolaids.
