Yup, you heard it right.  Nipples in Old Armies won't come loose.  Cheap wrench that comes with them wants to slip.  Anyone else have this problem and ideas on how the free my nipples.  Thanks in advance

I'd try some Kano's Aero Kroil. It was recommended to me by a pard on the wire here and seems able to undo just about anything.

I have used Autozone products with success ..such as break free and liquid wrench in a spray can ...set the cylinder in an old bowel and gave a good spray once every morning for 3 or 4 days in a row . If someone would come out with a good nipple wrench , there wouldn`t be so much a problem . Maybe USFA will make one when they start produceing the 1858 Remmie . We can hope anyway .

I use PB Blaster for stuck metals. Even used it last spring on a stuck engine. I let it soak in the cylendars for a few days and it broke free right a way.
By the way if your wrench has started slipping I'd replace the wrench AND the nipples before I put them back.

Howdy Cohagen,

Stuck nipples on all yer ROAs, or just the black ones?  Original Ruger, or replacements?  The nipple wrench that came with mine is very good quality, but it's old.  Maybe the new ones aren't as good?

If all the soaking mentioned above don't work, put 'em in boiling water for a while.  Then, take a chip of dry ice and hold it on the nipple to chill it fast, just the nipple, not the cylinder.  Hot chamber, cold nipple.  The cylinder should expand enough and the nipple pucker up enough that it will come out.

PB Blaster and heat is what my gunsmith suggested.

If you have a T-shaped wrench or a screwdriver hex driver it helps to put the cylinder in a padded vise and AS YOU TURN the wrench/driver, tap it with a hammer:   taptaptaptaptaptap as you torque. This is after you have sprayed with the penetrating oil/liquid wrench/etc. I've gotten some really stuck screws out that way.
