Can the qualification be shot with these same guns?

Yes, and no. The pistols and lever rifle should be fine, but we don't have a qualification for the shotgun. I checked the approved list for the H&R but didn't find it on the list so I just can't allow it for the marksmanship qualification. If you want to shoot it in the postal shoot I'll allow it and as MAA Drydock said it'd be approved for the buffalo scout class at the muster.

Here's a link to the approved list.

Thanks,

I figured that the shotgun wasn't used for the marksmanship.  And I know the H&R isn't an acccurate copy of anything 19th century military, although it's probably a decendant.  I was mainly asking about the pistol caliber rifle.

I've also got the calendar marked, as I certainly want to make it to Muster 2008 ... especially in view of the location.

My "batman" ... being a bit of a "wuss" ... has indicated he doesn't think he'll want to go if it means sleeping in the Barracks ... but that sounds right up my alley - provided others don't mind putting up with aging, overweight barracksmates, that is....

I'm going to alert Hardtack Henry (with whom I attended Muster 2005) as I suspect he'll definitely want to attend if at all possible, in view of his impression is an Indian Wars infantry sergeant.  (Accordingly, if you can reserve two additional bunks for us, that would be much appreciated, Col Pitspitr!)

By the way Pards, the Nebraska State website's page on Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park has a nice, albeit brief, video on the facility:

As a matter of interest, looking for further information about Ft. Hartsuff online, I came across the following:

The above images are available online in conjunction with the entire text of a book entitled "Trail of the Loup"
(or "Trail of the Loup River") apparently published in 1906 - here is a link to Chapter 10, dealing with Fort Hatrsuff:

And here's a photograph of the Enlisted Men's Barracks in the restored Fort:

Jack, I am looking forward to spending time with you again.  I will be sure to bring the fixin's for Turkish Coffee, I know River City John will join us in that one.  We must have Col. Pistipzer try them also.

Jack, The link you listed for The Trail of the Loup contains the story line for three of our stages we'll shoot next year. Were did you find the modern photo of the barracks? I built the repro rifle rack in the fore ground. ;D

I sure hope Hardtack can join you. I'm looking forward to seeing him again.

Oh yeah, I'll be in the barracks myself.   Ya know, it reminds me a lot of the barracks I stayed in during Navy Basic up at Great Lakes.

Lot better actualy.

O'course, they tore that down a decade ago as being no longer suitable for habitation . . .

Ah, the peeling paint, the frozen pipes, the noreasters howling off the lake, whistling thru the gaps round rusting window frames . . .*sniff* . . . good times . . .  :P

The baracks image was on this webpage:

I also came across this image, on a family website chronicling their travels -
the lady seems to be trying to figure out what the heck it is!

I'm really pleased with the intrest being shown in the '08 Muster. The way it's shaping up it looks as though this will be our biggest muster to date.
The barracks is already about a fourth full. I'm keeping a running list of everyone who's expressed interest in staying there. If any of you who have asked for a place in the barracks find out you won't be able to attend be sure to let me know as soon as you find out so that I can move someone else onto the list. This isn't critical yet as it isn't full yet but it sounds as though it will be before next Oct.

Please add me to the list for a bunk.

You may also point out that the post commander has requested no alcohol on site.

When my stomach is involved, your name is always near the top of the list.  ;)
Besides, you don't count against the 40 since there's 2 beds in the kitchen.

Please reserve a bunk for me, Sir. I plan on being there if the Great River doesn't flood and take out all the bridges.  :o
