Is there a group out there that provides a "darkside" group/badge for black powder shooters much like the SCORRS group/badge?  If not, we should create one.

My thinking is that, unlike a group like SCORRS, you cannot look at a person (or their gear) and tell right off if they are a disciple of the Dark Art or not...it would be nice to able to recognize a our sooty pards before they are lost in a cloud of smoke...

If there isn't one out there...how many would be interested?  While I am not into badge collecting, I would wear this with pride...

Last I heard, wearing a black sash was the mark of the Soot Lord. That, and being followed by a gray haze after every stage.

I like the badge idea for us Darksiders.  We should have a design palaver hereabouts and see what we kin come with.  Some orange for flame, some light blue for smoke.  Good contrast there.  Gold lettering on a field of black.  Hmmm, I'll have to work on this one.  Also, what shape?  Certainly not another star or average shield.  Mayhaps a ragged bullet hole?

'Round here, we have the Virginia Fire 'n Brimstone Posse badges.  Plastic shields with our SASS alias 'n badge numbers on 'em.  All arranged 'n delivered in absolute brilliance by Pony Racer.

Got expensive badges I don't wear.  Mighty proud of that VF&BP badge.  Honored ta wear it.  To be identified with my brothers and sisters walkin' the Darkside.  I am not worthy yet they embrace me. Ain't the badge – it's the heart what beats behind it. It is the spirit.  We have experienced the enlightenment 'n we are one.

Won't be caught without that badge at a shoot.  Nope.

I agree the badge should be different..what about a name?

I'll look into badge options with with Starpacker...

Let the name games begin:

Soot Sinners
Darksiders
Band of the Black

(Man, I suck at this)   ;D

I have too many badges already, but the black sash was / is unique.  I don't see very many fellow BP shooters wearing the black sash anymore but I still proudly wear mine! Wear the Black Sash to proclaim you are a Lord of the Soot! Now go forth and make smoke.
I never, in my life, took any mean advantage of an enemy, but I never allowed a man to get the drop on me either.

How about a FLAMING BOMB with Yellow and Orange Flames and Orange lettering on the Bomb's Body saying something like "SOOT LORD" or something of that nature?

The flames must show a bursting effect, not like the smudge pot flame that the US Army has for their Ordnance Corps.  and it should be 2 inches high by one inch wide at a minimum.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

I've got that black sash, with a slash of purple for Gunfighter.  I don't wear it enuf.  I'll take it along to Fandango.

I've got room for another badge on my bowler hat.

I like the idea of a Darksiders badge. For me the name "Band of the Black" sounds good.  ;D

Geezze...................

You guys want to complicate things too much.

Just get a little black paint, artists acrylic is good, and put a little spot on your forehead, like a Hindu caste mark.

A tube of paint will last you forever, it washes off easy.

We don't need no stinkin' badges!

Grizzle - I like your idea but it might get my hat dirty   ;D  Obviously this would just be for folks that wanted to participate...

As I am home with a sick kid today, I took a stab at a mock up...please feel free to rip it apart as it is just some preliminary ideas to start the conversation...

The outer rim would be silver with black inset circle and yellow/orange star obscured by a cloud of white smoke  (As we are much of the time)...my thinking was the Star also represents the muzzle blast if you were looking on from the targets point of view....the name is only a placeholder and the x's represent where someones alias could be...

Howdy Boys

Count me out. I never saw the point behind the black sash and I don't see the point behind badges either. Everybody around here knows I shoot nothing but Black Powder. If they don't see me or hear me shooting, the stains on my hat from the empties bouncing off, and the faint aroma of sulfer announces for anyone who is observant what my preferred powder is. If nobody notices, who cares? What's the point, are we supposed to greet each other with a secret handshake or something? The evidence is in plain sight. I have enough fun just shooting without needing to advertise what my favorite powder is.

There was a post on the SASS Wire a few years ago berating BP shooters for not wearing black sashes. Seems he thought everybody was not pulling their weight and was letting him down by not showing solidarity and wearing a silly sash. I had to look in my Shooters Handbook to make sure there was not a new rule requiring shooters in the BP categories to wear a sash. I don't understand that mindset. The fun is in the shooting, not wearing some proscribed article of clothing or a badge proclaiming what you shoot.

Sorry, I just don't get it.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Sorry, I didn't hear you. I was busy searching for my secret Henry Society badge. I need it because nobody can tell I shoot a Henry unless they see me shooting it or carrying it. Don't want nobody to think I shoot one of them plain old '73s. After I find the Henry badge I need to find the Stevens and the Colt badges.

Howdy folks - the VA Fire and Brimstone badge was done for fun.

It is cheap enough that I just went ahead and bought the bunch of badges.

if you want to wear one great, If you want to wear a sash great.  if you want to just shoot BP great.
