The GAF has been asked to provide the Color Guard for the SASS Convention this year.

Previously, they have used the local National Guard or Reserves.  However, this year they'd like to have the GAF do it.

If you are planning to attend the SASS Convention (Dec 6-9) and would like to take a few minutes to man the color guard at the Banquet on Saturday night, please let me know.   We'd probably need to practice for a few minutes during the day, and then do the opening ceremony, at which time you would be free to join your friends or family for dinner and dancing.  And we all know how well received the uniforms are received by the public!

The GAF has slowly but surely been establishing itself as THE military interest group in SASS.  This is an outstanding opportunity public relations opportunity for the GAF.

Do you have an approximate time for the duty?
I will be arriving at the Riveria about 9:00PM Wednesday night.
Thursday AM, between 0800 & 0900, I register for the TG conference, & the TG conference starts at 0900. Nor have I purchased a ticket for the Banquet.

I should be able to assist, do you want corporal or sargent?

Dusty

US Scout

Dusty,

The Color Guard would present the colors at the beginning of the Banquet on Saturday night. According to the SASS Website, that would be about 1830.  If you opt out of the Banquet, all you'd need to do is help out with the color guard and then be dismissed to do as you wish, probably no later than 1900.

We'd need to put in about 1/2 hour of practice sometime before then just to make sure we knew what we were doing.

At this point I've not even registered - need to do that as time is getting short.  I've been waiting to see if the wife will be able to attend this year (she missed last year due to work).

I would very much like to volunteer for that detail....With the permission of our Department of the Platte MISSOURI commander, of course.
I will be portraying Ltc Roosevelt and carrying a Winchester M-1895 in .30 Krag.

I also have a SASS flag suitable to be mounted on a guidon staff.
Have you secured any harness & sockets yet?

Respectfully,
Mustang Gregg,

The SASS Convention Coordinator told me he would provide the colors and frog (harness), however I need to double check him on that to be absolutely, positively sure he has arranged that.

That said, I think we might be able to use the Department of Missouri Colors - I doubt SASS has its own flag anyway, and I'd rather use a GAF color instead of a state flag is I can.  I will be in touch once I know to work out the transfer details.

Anyone else out that want to volunteer for the Color Guard?  I can use as many as will volunteer.

By the way, sorry for the delay - seems I can't open any of the threads at work.  I can get to The Barracks but after that it's like I'm on dialup trying to get a thread to open.

MG,
Don't feel too bad about it as our geographic partitions can be a little confusing if one compares them to actual historic dept., divisions, ect.

During the the Indian War period, which covers most of the time frame we portray, the Division of the Missouri Covered roughly about the same area as the GAF Department of Missouri.

The Departments ran roughly east and west. The Department of the Platte covered Nebraska, Iowa, Wyoming, and Utah.

Departments were broken down into Districts. An example of a district was the District of the Black Hills which covered parts of South Dakota, Nebraska, and Wyoming.

Col Pitspitr:

That is great news about the Fort being selected as the site for the Muster.  If we are in NE, we will be there.  Keep me in mind for any assistance or resources needed.

BTW:  I am now back in NE again.  ;D ;D ;D   I will ship the stars & medal out today.  OOPS!  Today is the "observed day" for Columbus Day.  TOMORROW!!

ABTW:  I actually do own a SASS flag that is 24" X 36" with a white field.  And the SASS cowboy is embroided on both sides.

Folks we need more help. It would be nice to have US, Nevada, SASS, & GAF flags. So we would need a minimum of 4 + US Scout commanding, a total of six with 2 gaurds. I will have 3 uniforms with me if that is an issue. To give an idea of body type uniform, I am 6' 240 lbs, 48 chest, 42 pants.

Let me know if you are attending & can help.

Dusty

US Scout

Dusty,

Its looking like we will be marching out with US, SASS and GAF colors.

I can probably also equip a few with uniforms as well.

If you're interested in participating, you don't have to have a dress uniform - a field uniform is prefectly acceptable.  If you'd like, you can shift into something a bit more formal after the opening cermony.

Dusty is quite right - we could definitely use a few more folks to man the color guard at the SASS Convention.

If you are planning to attend the Convention, please consider taking a few minutes of your time to help us out.  This is a great opportunity to get some great PR with SASS.

We now have four members for our color guard - I'm hoping we can get one or two more.

At present it looks like we'll be carrying the National Colors, a GAF flag (courtesy of the Department of the Missouri), and possibly a SASS flag.

I'll be contacting the Color Guard regarding a practice time and logistics issues.

General Scout & Cadre:

I can also bring along my (ahem!) Nebraska flag:o  But I reckon that would not be very appropriate at a Nevada convention.
;D I WILL however, bring my personal SASS flag if we can come up with any necessary hardware & a guidon staff.

Frivolities, aside, Sir:
I would like to volunteer be a rifleman, if possible.  And I would like a "yes" or "no" to this detail soon.
If approved, I will appropriate, at my own expense, a new .30-40 Krag caliber Winchester M-1895 like my hero, Lt Col Theodore Roosevelt had in Cuba.

What days will the Color Guard be bringing in the Colors?

Sir!  Regret I am unable to attend the Convention due to family committments.  Hope to see you all down the trail.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, and a successful mission!

Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Sir:

We now have Lineas A. Puffbuster (now just Puffbuster) on our Color Guard detail.  He will be representing the Confederate States as a General, I believe.

And we could probably use another GAF soldier, sailor or Marine who will be going to the convention.
