Jumps in yer car Tensleep call me about 40 miles outa Lincoln and I'll direct ya to the store.  If I ain't workin' I'll come one in.   ;D ;D  If ya can't do that, let me do some thinkin' here, how Hisstorically correct do you want to look.  I've done some reseach that would shock most on what a lot of cowboys looked like.   Don't get me wrong, there is nothin' wrong with the popular image and often it is right also to at least some extent.   Also I often work an outfit around what guns are gonna be carried.   I'm at home right now on my old poopter, but let me rattle Slim a bit and I'll see if he can post this picture for me.  I'll post the link but for some reason the links from the LOC go dead after a few days.

http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?psbib:32:./temp/~ammem_vWoP:

Slim can you forgive me and post my favorite ranch foreman picture?  The one everyone tries ta tell me is a sodbuster. ;D  I promise I won't post no more recipes for roast Slim. :P :P  (If someone else can it would help afore the link goes stale)

Try this,

Ok, Tensleep, did you click up and study this fella real well.  Many of us have knocked this around and most of us think it is the boss, fer several reasons.

Not a New Mexico boss, but let me do some more reseach.   Note the cuffed blue denim and the TWO rear pockets on his pants.  These are not Levis because Levi's had the straight waist band, not the V-notch like the Wah, Cows and Frontier Classic pants.  Also Levis only had one pocket then.  Check er out Sleep and give me some feedback, we'll have you ramrodin' the ranch in no time. ;D ;D

One interesting thing for me is there is only one button on the pants for each braces strap instead of two.

That young fella Charley Meeks that Slim posted, he's about the same age as about half the Texas Cowboys that drove to Kansas.  Look closly, he's done worked so hard he's done wore out the horn on his saddle.   ;D

Why he might of even helped the Duke get his cattle ta Belle Fourche. ;)  Didn't you never watch The Cowboys. ;)

Almost looks like he's got brooguns on under the gaiters, I'f he a had a OK spur on one of the he could be Little Joe the Wrangler.  (not to be confused with Little Joe the Cartwright. ;D)  Both a these fellas is what real workin' cowboys in the Sandhills of Newbrasskey looked like in the 1880's.

Gonna dig here, bet when I find our New Mexico Cowboy he ain't gonna look like Hollywood either.  Just looked at the map, dern Roswell is to fur south, we could have fun with that one. ;D ;D  Hear't they got some funny lookin' little ones down there. ;D

look fur further developements.

Del in 1882 Tensleep would be near 40 years old and had already been over the mountain and to see the
elephant. Wasn't no spring chicken or pony express type youngster.
Looking for a well placed type look.

I've got some leads on some good pictures, The southern region of Colarado would have been very similar.  Just havin' a little fun with ya on these two.  I wish there would have been a hundred or more like Solomon Butcher takin' good outdoor photo's and savin' the glass plates instead of cleanin' them off to reuse them.    I use these two photo's all the time to illastrate two very extremes in two cowboys from almost the same time and the same region.

Kinda Delmonico's history vs hollywood like the history channel.  This collection has been an eye opener for the history of the Newbrasskey Sandhills in the 1880's.  Too bad this is the only collection that is this good.

Look like a cowboy to me....cept for when you wear them rubber muckaluks to shoot it.  I don't figure that cowboys had much of a set look in mind when they bought clothes.  They pretty much had to settle for what they could get when they were in town and had money at the same time.

Just for fun, my defanition of "Cowboy" is someone who makes money workin' cattle from a horse.  One then adds the time period desired.  Many of the pre-1900 "Cowboys would never be allowed to shoot "Classic Cowboy" cause they didn't look the part.  Post a picture and we'll anyyliiize it.  As fer the mucklucks, I am sure we are talkin' bout a rubber boot.  Post me a picture of yer mucklucks and we'll see.  Many a cowboy workin' round the ranch in wet weather wore rubber boots.  Just fer fun anyone got an Idea when rubber boots were first made.  I do. ::) ::)
