Looking for NCOWS members that would be interested in forming a group of individuals that portray Indian Scouts, Army Interpreters, and Civilian Scouts of the Indian wars time period.

This group will share research material, photographs, craft instructions on how to build items such as correct moccasins, clothing and clothing materials, and accouterments of the period starting with the end of the civil war up to 1885.

We will exchanged information via e-mail or telephone....e-mail me at bill@surf-ici.com if you are interested. If enough interest is shown and we gather enough information I plan on putting it on a CD for our use.

OCB,

Count me in. I think this is a great idea!!!! It may even lead to a scout/interpreter posse one day. Let me know what I can do to help.

Count me in as well.

The subject of military scouts on the frontier has been my favorite topic since I can remember.

 Howdy Bill.

I have been tossing the idea of a civilian scout around for awhile now.
I have done some research but need to do a lot more. I like what you
have in mind and I would consider signing on if you don't mind a crusty
old coot in your outfit!! Take care.

Bill:
I'm not very active on the CAS wire, but I am a history buff, and I've been researching this period for many years. I'd be very interested in being a part of this. Thanks.

Man.....Great response so far....besides the hits here on Cas City, I've got about a dozen e-mails. We'll see how many are interested and then go from there. I have a lot of research on the time period. Remember this will be a discussion group for NCOWS members via  e-mail and phone, nothing will be discussed here on Cas City.

Steve & Caleb....Be glad to have you.

US Scout it will be great to have your knowledge.

I'd like to start collecting e-mails of those interested. So e-mail me asap.

Be thinking about a name and some of the items you'd like to discuss.

Over the winter and when I get back from elk hunting in Montana, I'm gonna start building a Crafts Library just on this subject. Anything you would like to see in it, or if you have something you would like to add to it, let me know.

I also plan on putting together some language indexes that will include the languages of the tribes associated with the Indian Wars. It'll be basic conversation in a phonetic style so it will be fairly easy to grasp. Most of this I already have.......

Longhorn....
I'll be looking for it...I've already got a e-mail from Judge Roy Bean from your neck of the woods..

Bill, I have been interested in the civilian scouts for a long time.
I am too fat and too old to portray one but I would enjoy taking part in any discussions..

Bill: Following my early years as a hunter on the Kansas plains I moved closer to the Medicine line and became a hunter for the forts from Laramie to McKinney. This lead to my first scout with Crook and his encounter with the wild Sioux tribes on the Rosebud. Thank goodness for Chief Scout Grouard, and those Crows and Shoshones or old Crook might have got us all killed. My second scout with the Sibley expedition in 76 was even more disasterous as you might have heard - that cured me of scouting for the military until they got those hostiles off the plains. Thereafter I was content with taking important easterners into the powder river country that they might experience killing the beasts of the the Great American Desert. Despite this limited scouting experience, I should like to enlist in your troop.

Or was it all just a dream?  ;) But count me in.

Bill,

If you guys don't mind a "clean"  ::) ::) looking civilian scout, I'd like to join up, too.  NCOWS #2542:  Email address fsgrand2@fairpoint.net.

I'm curious, though, why couldn't it be set up as a forum on Cascity.  It would be easier to reach members and exchange information.

Two Flints.....the reason....outside influence and..........you know how topics can get dis-jointed here some times.... ;)

I am considering doing a newsletter monthly or bi-monthly that will contain articles by myself as well as other members that will outline in detail craft construction information (such as making those beautiful Chiricahua Apache moccasins you are wearing in your avatar), clothing construction, language information and lessons,, horse tack & horse adornment, food and method of cooking. Things that would influence everyday living and survival. Research...research...research.

By the way...the response (my emails) have been awesome.....I am really surprised there is that much interest in this subject.

OCB,

Long time no see.  I have been kind of absent from CasCity and busy focusing on getting the 2007 Grand Muster planned and shot.  But now that my life is slowing down I'll be back around.  The concept sounds interesting.  I would like to be added to your list.  If you please you can add poeticcowboy32@yahoo.com  to your email list.

Interested in all of the topics....could even portray a civilian scout, since I'm a bit gaunt at the moment  :D

Email is "hotgun@juno.com", without the quotes of course.
