At Winter Range the word was around that repro Spencers would soon be available in 45 Colt.  Since then I haven't heard anything more.  Has anyone here got any more up-to-date information.  I'm a 45 Colt shooter (SAAs and M-73s) and a Spencer in the same caliber would be very nice - probably cause me spend money I don't have just now, if you get my drift...  thanks in advance for any more information.

One thing that hasn't been pointed out to you yet is that the Spencer in .44 Russian has been discontinued and I don't' think that even Taylor's has any left.  I have an original in 56-56 and one in 56-50.  I have a repro in 44-40 and I like the 44-40 the best.  I had one in .44 Russian and never could get it to cycle reliably.  You may want to wait for the new version in .45 LC.  It should be in the country within 2 months.

I talked to Taylor's today and they told me that they should have a shipment of the 45 LC version here by the end of September or early in October.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a handsome, and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming...."WOW!... What a ride!"

A Spencer in sub .50cal is like a Corvette with a 4 cylinder, all show and no go....If you want to shoot .45LC, buy a Winchester. ;D ;D ;D

Thats kind of the way I think too, but the ammo for the 56-50 is very expensive unless you reload.  I think the pistol calibers are a decent alternative for people that dont want to spend 2 bucks a round.  I have to say that 44-40 is my new favorite caliber in revolvers and rifles (excluding the Spencer of course).   Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

I think a Spencer in 45LC is a viable alternative. All I have is the 56-50, and probably all I need. If I was shooting more CAS , a 45LC would be a option. Plus in 45LC you can shoot the heavier bullets available. Spencers are heavy and there's not much felt recoil. 45LC in a Spencer would be a decent hunting combination. The world needs more hunters armed with Spencers.

   Greetings!

I have to agree with AE: Spencers were designed for big cartridges; .44-40, .45 S&W, .45C, et al, just don't seem right.
I have to wonder how well the extraction cycle would be with that minimal rim; not to rain on anyone's parade.
If I had any desire for a .45C Spencer, I'd lay low, and await the critical reviews of our fellow shooters.

   Be Well!
