Pards,

I had a bit of a problem today at our monthly shoot which necessitated disassembly of my relatively new Uberti Model 1873 when I got home.  However, even though I have followed the re-assembly instructions I had printed off - several times in fact! - I now cannot get the carrier block to operate.  I have left it on the bench, because I was getting so frustrated the heavy ballpeen hammer was starting to look tempting!

Can anyone offer a clue on what I might be doing wrong?

Several thoughts.
First, is the lifter arm in the proper hole in the carrier? It should be in the bottom hole, not visible when looking straight down from the top.
Second, are the two lifter springs fully against the cam on the lever? If they are not, you won't be able to get the side plates on.
Third, is the pin that goes into the hole of the lever in place? This pin is what actually pivots the toggles when the lever is cycled.

Good luck!

Howdy R J,
So, is the lever frozen as well, or does the lever operate but the carrier doesn't move?  If the lever moves, when it is all the way forward  and the bolt is back, are you able to move the carrier up or down with you fingers?   Did you disassemble the magazine as well?

Don't know which instructions you used, but good ones are on Marauder's page.  The second one has pictures.

This is just a thought, and not based on experience and I don't even know if it's possible to do, but could you have the toggles on the wrong sides? The half of the toggle with the slot in it goes to the rear, as I recall.

Thanks for the suggestions, Gentlemen ...

Abilene:  It was the first set of instructions from Marauder's page that I had printed off for reference quite some time ago, and was now trying to follow.  I don't recall seeing the other instructions with pictures previously, but have have now printed those and will have another go at it ....

Marshal Will:  Yes it is possible to install the toggle links on the wrong sides (that is one of the variations I tried, thinking I might have done it wrong by installing them correctly) but in that position, the toggle link pin doesn't even engage the pin slots, so it was pretty obvious it was wrong before going any further ...

After putting it back together, did you tighten up the two screws on the bottom of the receiver?  The ones that add tension to the springs.  If they are left  too loose, you gonna have a problem getting the carrier to work properly.

RattlesnakeJack

Yep, tightened both screws ....   :-\

Still haven't had time to take another run at it ... maybe tonight.   ::)
