Was diggin' around in the car today, cleaning out coffee cups.  (I pour them into a ee-nam-eel ware one when I get them.) ;D  found a almost forgotten tape,  Cowboy Junkies  The Trinity Sessions.  Not a well know group, kinda a combo of a bit of folk, a dose of real country as in a wonderful pedal steel, a bit of real Rock and Roll and a big dose of blues a really bad (good bad) mouth harp.  Add a lady singer with a hauntinfg voice that sounds like a cross between Stevie Nicks and Grace Slick, to much intrimental to try and post words.  But hauntingly good music.  A cover of Hank's  I'm so Lonsome I couldcry  soo diferent than anything you've ever heard.

Excellent,
the Trinity Sessions is probably their best recording,(although if you get the Live recording I think is called 200 miles, hearing Margo Timmion talk about having a pidgeon S**t on her head 15 minutes before a concert is a real treat...)

One reviewer said that Trinity Sessions sounded like Margo had dipped once too often into the thorazine jar...harsh but guess an apt description.

I love that whole album. couldnt tell you a favorite cut..

Has anybody heard of a little group out called Hanna & Mcquen (sp)  They are the offspring of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band..(does that make ya all feel old?

I've heard the 200 miles one and it is good also.  Misguided angel the second cut on the Trinty Sessions is my favorite, but the Hard Rock Miners song is an old song from before 1900 and is exellant.

The new air drills put so much quartz dust in the air till they added the water lines, that they called them Widow Makers, ya died in a couple of years from the silicosis, it tears up ones lungs and was called "Rocks in the Box." :o :o :o :o :P

While workin' on quilts up in my sewing room I've had some music on, cause TV sometimes sucks.  dug out some Guy Clark and thought this one might be a good one here.  A brutally honest song.

Instant Coffee Blues

He washed all the road dirt from his face and from his neck
And sat down at her table and she picked up his check.
And she took him home for reasons that she did not understand.
And him, he had the answers but did not play his hand.
For him he knew the taste of this wine very well.
It all goes down so easily but the next day is hell.

Morning - "Man was I drunk," she wispered in the shower.
While he lay there and smoked his way there through the final hour.
And she felt wholly empty like she'd felt it every time.
And he was feelin' just the same, 'cept he was tryin' to make it rhyme.
Time was of the essence so they both did their best,
to meet up in the kitchen feelin fully dressed.
She just had to go to work, and he just had to go.
And she knew where and he knew how to blow it off and so.

They shot the breeze quite cavalier to the boilin' of the pot.
And sang the Instant Coffee Blues and never fired a shot.

And him he hit the driveway with his feelin's in a case.
And her she hit the stoplight and touched up her face.
So you tell them the difference between caring and not.
And that it's all done with mirrors, lest they forgot.

I said it's all done with mirrors, of which they have none.
To blend the instant coffee blues into the morning sun

Folks who are ridin' in the car with me when I have Guy on who have never listened to him often stare at the tape deck when they here this.

I've been listening to a lot of music lately, I have a quilt laid out in my gunroom cause there is more floor space.  Been listening to a lot of John Prine, well all three album's I own, have this song on them.  This song is really sad to me now because it was a favorite of a very good friend of mine.

He gave up and took his life 11 months ago.

Souvenirs

All the snow has turned to water
Christmas days have come and gone
Broken toys and faded colors
Are all that's left to linger on
I hate graveyards and old pawn shops
For they always bring me tears
I can't forgive the way they rob me
Of my childhood souvenirs

Chorus:
Memories they can't be boughten
They can't be won at carnivals for free
Well it took me years
To get those souvenirs
And I don't know how they slipped away from me

Broken hearts and dirty windows
Make life difficult to see
That's why last night and this mornin'
Always look the same to me

I hate reading old love letters
For they always bring me tears
I can't forgive the way they rob me
Of my sweetheart's souvenirs

(repeat chorus)

Anuther John Prine called "The Frying Pan"  I love John Prine and I dedicate this one to any one who ever came home, found their spouse gone and didn't realize for a while how lucky the really were. ;D  Ok my ex went to the grocery store and didn't come back, worst thing is she came home, I had made supper, she ate it and left me with the dishes. ::)

I come home from work this evening
There was a note in the frying pan
It said fix your own supper babe
I run off with the Fuller Brush man

And I miss the way she used to yell at me
The way she used to cuss and moan
And if I ever go out and get married again
I'll never leave my wife at home

Sat down at the table
Screamed, and I hollered and cried
And I commenced a carryin' on
Till I almost lost my mind

And I miss the way she used to yell at me
The way she used to cuss and moan
And if I ever go out and get married again
I'll never leave my wife at home

If I ever see another salesman
Come a knockin' at my door
I'm gonna pick up a rock and hit him on the head
And knock him down on the floor

And I miss the way she used to yell at me
The way she used to cuss and moan
And if I ever go out and get married again
I'll never leave my wife at home

Her's another one fer ya slim, John's words make a lot of sense when you listen to then, been listenin' to him for about 35 years.  Clyde Clifford the 11pm to 2 am fella from KAAY Little Rock 1090
turned me on to John and many otheres when I was young, tis why my mind is so warpped.

Please Don't bury Me

Woke up this morning
Put on my slippers
Walked in the kitchen and died
And oh what a feeling!
When my soul
Went thru the ceiling
And on up into heaven I did ride
When I got there they did say
John, it happened this way
You slipped upon the floor
And hit your head
And all the angels say
Just before you passed away
These were the very last words
That you said:

Please don't bury me
Down in that cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have em cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both ears
If they don't mind the size

Give my stomach to milwaukee
If they run out of beer
Put my socks in a cedar box
Just get em out of here
Venus de milo can have my arms
Look out! I've got your nose
Sell my heart to the junkman
And give my love to rose

Please don't bury me
Down in that cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have em cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both ears
If they don't mind the size

Give my feet to the footloose
Careless, fancy free
Give my knees to the needy
Don't pull that stuff on me
Hand me down my walking cane
It's a sin to tell a lie
Send my mouth way down south
And kiss my ass goodbye

Please don't bury me
Down in that cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have em cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both ears
If they don't mind the size

Here Slim, try this one on for size.  Often we need some "Common Sense"

You can't live together
You can't live alone
Considering the weather
Oh my, how you've grown
From the men in the factories
To the wild kangaroo
Like those birds of a feather
They're gathering together
And feeling
Exactly like you

They got mesmerized
By lullabies
And limbo danced
In pairs
Please lock that door
It don't make much sense
That common sense
Don't make no sense
No more

Just between you and me
It's like pulling
When you ought to be shovin,
Like a nun
With her head in the oven
Please don't tell me
That this really wasn't nothing

One of these days
One of these nights
You'll take off your hat
And they'll read you
Your rights
You'll wanna get high
Every time you feel low
Hey, queen isabella
Stay away from that fella
He'll just get you
Into trouble, you know?

But they came here by boat
And they came here by plane
They blistered their hands
And they burned out their brain
All dreaming a dream
That'll never come true
Hey, don't give me no trouble
Or I'll call up my double
We'll play piggy-in-the-middle
With you

You'll get mesmerized
By alibis
And limbo dance in pairs
Please lock that door
It don't make much sense
That common sense
Don't make no sense
No more

With thanks to Tricky Trina for popping this one into my head.

Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer's out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets
The sun goes down alone
I'm drivin' by your house
Though I know you're not at home

But I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy?
Remember how I made you scream
Now I don't understand what happened to our love
But babe, I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna show you what I'm made of

As I look outside I sing:
"Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me

It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me"

Later tonight when I look outside I will sing:
"Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!"
