it is right on the tip of my tongue, but can't git it out far enough to see it...
it is coming back...but still foggy...

don't keep me in suspense.....

More of it, then I am off to bed:

Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Scattered Thumbs

And now for something completly different:

There was a game we used to play
We would hit the town on Friday night
And stay in bed until Sunday
We used to be so free
We were living for the love we had and
Living not for reality

It was just my imagination
It was just my imagination
It was just my imagination
There was a time I used to pray
I have always kept my faith in love
It's the greatest thing from the man above...

Book Miser

I had to cheat and look this one up:

While riding in my Cadillac
What to my surprise
A little Nash Rambler was following me
About one-third my size
The guy must have wanted to pass me out
As he kept on tooting his horn      <beep beep>
I'll show him that a Cadillac
Is not a car to scorn

<chorus>

I pushed my foot down to the floor
To give the guy the shake
But the little Nash Rambler stayed right behind
He still had on his brake
He must have thought his car had more guts
As he kept on tooting his horn      <beep beep>
I'll show him that a Cadillac
Is not a car to scorn

<chorus>

My car went in to passing gear
And we took off with gust
And soon we were doing ninety
Must have left him in the dust
When I peeked in the mirror of my car
I couldn't believe my eyes
The little Nash Rambler was right behind
You'd think that guy could fly

<chorus>

Now we're doing a hundred and ten
It certainly was a race
For a Rambler to pass a Caddy
Would be a big disgrace
The guy must have wanted to pass me out
As he kept on tooting his horn
I'll show him that a Cadillac
Is not a car to scorn

<chorus>

Now we're doing a hundred and twenty
As fast as I could go
The Rambler pulled alongside of me
As if we were going slow
The fellow rolled his window down
And yelled for me to hear
"Hey buddy how can I get this car
  out...
      of...
         second
            gear!"

Joyce (AnnieLee)

That's a nice one, Scattered Thumbs, what is the title and who did it?

Book, the first car I remember ever being in was my dad's Rambler.

If it was a "Nash Rambler," it woulda been pre-1959 or 60. The company dropped the name "Nash" around that time. For example the Rambler American was not a Nash.

I think the car this song refers to is the Nash Metropolitan. A friend had one, and I can remember getting at least 75 or 80 mph in second. When you had a long enough straightaway to accelerate to that speed.

Fair warning: I just found a flock of Rolf Harris lyrics on the web... :P

Joyce (AnnieLee)

I was little so it had to be in 60 or 61, and I don't remember it as a new car. It could've been a Nash Rambler, it looked like the pics I have seen. But it was a long, long time ago.

Talk about a flood of memories, first a Nash, we had one looked like a boat..(was not a metropolotin..much bigger)

the song, you didn't include "beep-beep" in the lyrics....

and finally Rolf Harris....I actually liked the "B" side of the record Tye my kangaroo down...does anyone remember the title?  (Old Top should get this one as he probably still has the 45....)

Ya all just improved what has been a "very difficult day here"

thank you kindly

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

You expect me to sleep, after seeing that?!?

Here's something far more traditional:

Angels We Have Heard on High
Angels we have heard on high,
Singing sweetly through the night,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their brave delight.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why these songs of happy cheer?
What great brightness did you see?
What glad tiding did you hear?
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.

Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee
Christ, the Lord, the new-born King.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.

See him in a manger laid
Whom the angels praise above;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While we raise our hearts in love.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.

Posh, toss me a hard one!

There's something in it about "diggary do, boys"

My dad loved that song. Imagine a 6'2" burly man with the shape of a blacksmith, bellowing out that song with a deep, rumbling voice, including a cheesy Aussie accent.

It's a good memory. Thank you for bringing it back to me.

One time, when I was in London, we went to an Irish Pub. A band called The Jacket Potatoes was playing. They were radical, and we weren't allowed to buy our own drinks the entire time we were there. It was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had in a bar.

"Yer in an Irish Pub, lass, ye can't be drinkin' a ha peent here, ya gotta go for th full peent!"

AnnieLee, who doesn't drink much.

There's an old Australian stockman, lying, dying. He gets himself up on one elbow,
turns to his mates, who are gathered round,
and he says:

Watch me wallaby's feed, mate
Watch me wallaby's feed.
They're a dangerous breed, mate
So watch me wallaby's feed.
All together now!

Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.

Keep me cockatoo cool, Curl,
Keep me cockatoo cool.
Don't go acting the fool, Curl,
Keep me cockatoo cool.
All together now!

Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.

Take me koala back, Jack,
Take me koala back.
He lives somewhere out on the track, Mac,
So take me koala back.
All together now!

Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.

Let me aboes go loose, Lou
Let me aboes go loose.
They're of no further use, Lou
So let me aboes go loose.

Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.

Mind me platypus duck, Bill,
Mind me platypus duck.
Don't let him go running amuck, Bill,
Mind me platypus duck.
All together now!

Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.

Play your didgeridoo, Blue,
Play your didgeridoo.
Keep playing 'til I shoot through, Blue,
Play your didgeridoo.
All together now!

Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.

Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred,
Tan me hide when I'm dead.
So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde,
And that's it hanging on the shed.
All together now!

Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, sport,
Tie me kangaroo down.
