I thought my fellow Spencer lovers might enjoy to know I've come across letter that Major General Sherman sent to Spencer about the use of their firearms in a few campaigns, especially in Georgia. Took a while to translate, trying to authenticate currently.

 ;D ;D ;D
Whooee!  I reckon nagging so we get to see it quick won't help much, but if you could 'get er done' it would be great.

   Howdy Pards!

Indeed I would like to see it!

Rosecrans, Thomas, AND Sherman were no dummies.  Their headquarters/personal guard were detachments from the Spencer rifle armed Ohio Independent Companies of Sharpshooters.   ;)  :)

Howdy, SpencerSporter
Thanks for the personal reply- How's about posting the letter?
Currently it seems W.T. Sherman's reputation is suffering in regards to Rosecrans (and others) vis- a- vis new technology.  I'm not a historian, but it strikes me your letter would be pertinant to the debate.
What I'm trying to say, in a real nice way is Please, Please post the letter ;) ;) ;)

Sir,

Yours of Oct 18 is received. The Spencer Repeating Rifle was used by both

Cavalry and Infantry in my Army, and was universally preferred over all other breech

loaders.

We used this Rifle to great advantage by Infantry at Griswald Station near

Macon, GA. Also at Bentonville, NC and Kilpatrick's Cavalry was so impressed with

it's adaptability to Cavalry uses that the General made every effort to procure it to

the exclusion of all other Carbines.

                                                I am with respect sir

                                                W.T Sherman

                                                Major General

Thank Two Flints for kicking me in the keester and reminding me to get this up on here.......enjoy!
