Here is a carbine stack. It included my 1861 Saber, one Spencer and 2 original Sharps & Hankins carbines. I thought it was an interesting image.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a handsome, and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming...."WOW!... What a ride!"

Hi Major,

Thanks for posting your carbine stack.  Is that Spencer, your 44-40 carbine with the heavy hammer pull or another Spencer that you own?  Just wondering.  Keep us posted on your mainspring filing/modification, if you do it.

The Spencer in the picture is the 44-40 one.  I went out and got some stones for my Dremel but I haven't had the time to work on the main spring yet.  I will let you know what happens.

   Greetings, Major!

Your Sharps & Hankins... Do you ever take them out? If so, do you use DGW .22 Blank-fired Spencer Ctgs.?

   Be Well!

M.T.
We use the Sharps & Hankins on a regular basis.  We have 4 of them in my reenacting regiment.  They are converted to center fire and there is a short 2" sleeve soldered in the breach that is chambered for .44 Mag.  Here is a picture of one I have for sale.

For an explanation of how we make the blanks for it you can go to my article about using a Henry for Reenacting.  We use the same blanks for the Sharps & Hankins that we use in the Henrys. http://www.9thnycavalry.webeditor.com/henry_article.html
