I don't know that there will ever be bands and groups like back in the 50's and 60's,  everybody had a record player and 45's were spinning everywhere you went, so many groups comin and goin,  sock hops, bands on tours, when you were in the car it was playin on the AM stations, that's all we had to listen to back then, you knew every song comin on, sang along with all of em, saw the groups on American Bandstand,   it sure was a different time and place than any other time.

yeah, there really isn't much out there now that I can call myself proud of my generation's music... not at all.  Thank God for John Mayer and Jonny Lang, and of course those good ones in Country, but even then some of them, they aren't even Country even more...

This come ta me tanight.  Always a favorite, but hadn't heard it in years.

In my time of dying, want nobody to mourn
All I want for you to do is take my body home

Well, well, well, so I can die easy (x2)

Jesus, gonna make up my dyin bed.
Meet me, jesus, meet me. meet me in the middle of the air
If my wings should fail me, lord. please meet me with another pair

Well, well, well, so I can die easy (x2)

Jesus, gonna make up.. somebody, somebody...
Jesus gonna make up... jesus gonna make you my dyin bed

Oh, saint peter, at the gates of heaven... wont you let me in
I never did no harm. I never did no wrong

Oh, gabriel, let me blow your horn. let me blow your horn
Oh, I never did, did no harm.

Ive only been this young once. I never thought Id do anybody no wrong
No, not once.

Oh, I did somebody some good. somebody some good...
Oh, did somebody some good. I must have did somebody some good...

And I see them in the streets
And I see them in the field
And I hear them shouting under my feet
And I know its got to be real
Oh, lord, deliver me
All the wrong Ive done
You can deliver me, lord
I only wanted to have some fun.

Hear the angels marchin, hear the marchin, hear them marchin,
Hear them marchin, the marchin

Oh my jesus... (repeat)

Oh, dont you make it my dyin, dyin, dyin...

I only wanted to have some fun  I think that's what get's me on this one.

Leo, do you know who wrote/performs that song?

I'd love to check it out for you, I've got some resources here at school (including old vintage record store!) that I may be able to find something for you.

Tex, I do sleep on the weekends! LOL  but yeah, that's also when I have the most fun!

Willie, that version was done by the Mighty Zep on Physical Graffiti.  The song is much older than that, but that's the one that was in my head.  Great slide work by Mr. Page.

Mandrell, Clark, McCoy join Country Hall of Fame

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Barbara Mandrell, Roy Clark and Charlie McCoy will become the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The CMA announced the selections Wednesday in Nashville. All three will be formally inducted in a ceremony this spring.
Mandrell's hits include "Sleeping Single in a Double Bed" and "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool."

Clark's hits include "Tips of My Fingers" and "Yesterday When I Was Young." He co-hosted the long-running TV show "Hee Haw" with Buck Owens.

McCoy was chosen for his skill as a musician, especially on harmonica. He was one of Nashville's top session players in the 1960s and '70s.

Inductees are chosen by more than 300 voters appointed by the CMA's board of directors.

Ain't inta country. But Clark, I think, is one hell of a talent 'n a great entertainer. I stumbled o'er this just now 'n I'm thrilled for 'im!

Barbra had two sisters who kinda got left by the wayside.  They had a lame variety show in the 80's.

They used ta have Louise give a vocabulary lesson at the end of the show.  I gotta weird memory, but that's where  learned the meaning of "demeanor".  Then they'd have her say somthin dumb.
Erlene had dark hair if I recall.  They'd do them spirituals and it was like listnin ta angels.

This is the song I always think about when I think about Roy.

I've made a small fortune and you squandered it all
You shamed me till I feel about one inch tall
But I thought I loved you and I hoped you would change
So I gritted my teeth and didn't complain.

Now you come to me with a simple goodbye
You tell me you're leaving but you won't tell me why
Now we're here at the station and you're getting on
And all I can think of is thank God and Greyhound you're gone

Thank God and Greyhound you're gone
I didn't know how much longer I could go on
Watching you take the respect out of me
Watching you make a total wreck out of me
That big diesel motor is a-playing my song
Thank God and Greyhound you're gone.

Thank God and Greyhound you're gone
That load on my mind got lighter when you got on
That shiny old bus is a beautiful sight
With the black smoke a-rolling up around the taillight
It may sound kind-a cruel but I've been silent too long
Thank God and Greyhound you're gone.

Thank God and Greyhound you're gone...
