Several who try to keep Country music where it should be have covered this one, but don't get much air play, although I here it's one of Alllan Jackson's most requested live.

Guess the guy who wrote it did it best. ;)

Great song, Del.  ;D

It's unfortunate that Hank died at such an early age, 29,  He was idol to the poor and the working class people.

But the good thing is he went out when he was riding high, (no pun intended)  look at all the great ones who the system forgot about when they were done with them.

Going out when he was on top is something the %$#%^^$%$ can't take away from him.  The fact his song "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive" was starting to chart well only adds to they mystic.

Garth Brooks:   From Yukon, Oklahoma.  He threw the javelin in HS good enough to get a track scholrship to Oklahoma State University.

Garth Brooks is what got me into country as a little kid.  I was only about 5 or 6 when Thunder Rolls came out and I was hooked from then on.  My Dad brought me up proper, Garth Brooks, Hank and Hank Jr, George Straight, Travis Tritt, Randy Travis and the "trediest" of the group Clint Black...  wow and people back then were complaining that Clint Black was too "trendy"...

I bought Garth's first album on cassette, before CD's came along.  He did a song on that album about an Old Texas Ranger which I really liked. There's another Okie that's not too bad, Toby Keith.

Toby Keith is amazing.  I love "Red White and Blue," and "Beer for my Horses."  I mean yeah, his are great!  Which song is about the old Texas Ranger?  I love "Lonesome Dove" on Ropin' the Wind.  But what's on his first album?

The album is his first, "Garth Brooks" and the name of the song is "Cowboy Bill".   The album came out in 89.

I had heard a couple of cuts off that first album before I bought. I sorta thought he had a chance at being a star. Garth ain't a Texan, but being an OKIE ain't so bad. I was one for almost 5 years.

I get the Garth fans at work all up-set when I'm in the part of the store that plays the heathen radio.  They'll play "Callin' Baton Rouge" and I'll mention that it would have saved him a bunch a money if he'd called Sandy instead. ;D
