When Flo left Mel's Diner ta open Flo's Yellow Rose wasn't it Hoyt that sang the song originally.  He was sittin on a counter stool with his guitar and sung the song fer Flo.  I'd go ask Alice but that's goin in a whole nother direction.

I have been a fan of Hoyt's since about 1961. Saw him in a club with only 4 other people in the house. Still heck of a show.

Snowblind Friend was a personal and painful song. A friend was in accident in Mexico and badly hurt, wife came to Hoyt asking for help and he was too loaded to do anything, next day when the fog cleared the friend had died.

Also the scene in "Star is Born" with Kristofferson riding the bike into the recording studio, that was taken from Hoyts life.

Honeysuckle Rose was the name of Hoyt's tour bus (long before Willie used the name) and Hoyt bought the bus from Commander Cody (and also stole their bass player Bruce Barlow.) Hoyt had a big old rockin chair bolted in the place of the front seat, and would often sit there. It was a cool old bus. Me and my ex wife were going to go see him after a concert (the place didn't have a back stage) and we were walkin up to the bus and the bouncer was gonna stop us, but Hoyt grabbed my ex and hugged her, and he was about twice the size of the bouncer, so he just backed off..


one of my favorite songs was "I dream of Highways" (especially as sung by Susan St James and Peter Fonda in Outlaw Blues ) find that movie, and harder still find the sound track. It took me 15 years to get another copy after my ex grabbed it in a divorce.

One thing straight, K.  I got a wiered memory fer all things 20th century.  Don't wanna keep it all in there, but there it stays.
    When Flo left Alice (and Vera and Mel) she got her own show whereins she opened her own truckstop.  This was about the same time As Sheriff Lobo (from BJ and the Bear--told ya I'm a freak).  I'll swear ta ya that Hoyt Axton was the first ta sing the song "Flo's Yellow Rose".  The show its self may have just been called "Flo".  But the diner was the Yellow Rose.
    No Googlin, I remember this stuff.  Or I just fell out of the tree house an bumped ma head an invented my own little world.

Hoyt's last few years were spent in a Wheel chair. This didn't stop him he still got out did a bunch of charity stuff and was a good member of the community. Even with a few posession charges. He didn't git out driving under the influence or starting fights or shootin' folks.  His neighbors in Western Montana adored him.
