I think this'n his best tune

I struck the trail in seventy-nine
The herd strung out behind me
As I jogged along my mind went back
To the gal I left behind

If I ever get off the trail, boys
And the Indians don't find me
I'll make my way straight back again
To the gal I left behind me

CHORUS:
That sweet little gal, that true little gal
The gal I left behind me
That sweet little gal, that pretty little gal
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/pGD ]
The gal I left behind me

The wind did blow and the rain did flow
The hail did fall and blind me
And I thought of that gal,
that sweet little gal
That gal I'd left behind me

She wrote ahead to a place I said
And I was glad to find it
She says "I'm true, when you get through
Ride back and you will find me"

CHORUS

When we sold out I took the train
I knew that I would find her
When I got back, we had a smack
And that's no gol-darned liar

CHORUS
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

"I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved."

While were outing these heartbreaking revleations, I feel it's my duty ta tell ya that The Monkeys didn't really play their own instraments.

They weren't allowed to in the begining, but played a lot later on. Saw them in concert in the 80's and they were kick AAAs. Also, look up Micheal Nesmith and see what songs he is responsible for writing. One of my favorites was "I still miss someone". Of course then he got nuts and did "One Ton Tomatoe".....anybody remember what that was a play off....

I picked up Nesmiths early records on a cd a couple of years ago....Joanne, and a bunch of others...way cool.

Remember my face to face conversion with one of my two true to life first cousins a few years back.

Said my late uncle was takin' 'em to California ta start his non-military life drivin' a Rambler Marlin. Ran outtah gas 'n money in Tulsa 'n there they stayed.

Arcey, what year did they go to Tulsa,  it was nice place to go growing up,  not nearly as big as it is now.

2 real life first cousins,  :o   I had 41 first cousins and 32 of em lived within 5 miles of us.   ;D  the rest weren't much further.

OT, I'm guessin' '66 or '67. They spent some time with my grandparents before they left. My uncle had just bought the Rambler new.

Cousin Erika spent the summer with my mother. That was in '69. She 'n I had graduated that year. She was a week older than me. Erika died in her early thirties, leukemia.

Uncle John flew in '87 when my grandfather died. Cousin Johnny came in when Momma died. I ain't seen 'im since. Don't expect to.

Told me he owned an irrigation company. Tried to find it on the 'net. Ain't there. Could've gone outtah business or sold it.

Ain't seen nor heard from cousin Gwen since I saw her last at my grandparents' house before they left. She was a baby then.

It woulda been pretty nice back then,  all the little towns around it hadn't grown together and combined like they are now.  I used to spend a lot of time up there from 68 on, my first wife lived up there, so I was up there as much as possible.

Man, I got scattered family everywhere.
Now an again I do a search on ma last name ta see what pops up.  Found out a year ago that a cuzzin of mine had become a real estate tycoon in LA.  Got killed by a drunk driver.  We spent time tagether as kids, but hadn't seen him since.  Nobody told me, I found out on the innernet.
Gotta sister out there.  Couldn't tell ya much about her.  We had no fight, just parted ways nice and easy.  She ran the show at my Mom's funeral, an from the info the pastor got from her ya'd think me an my family never existed.  Folks saw me an Lil were sittin in the front row an later asked, "who are you?"  Wanted ta say, "the last person that ever spoke ta her".  True as that was, I kept my decorum an just said, "I'm her son".  At that folks were confused that I had not been givin the opportunity to speak or even be mentioned.
Don't harbor no ill will against sister, just know how it is.
