Charlie Daniels always does a good song.  I liked his first hit called "The Uneasy Rider." I like his patriotic songs.  Porter Waggoner did a song about an old black hat. I don't remember the title or the words to it.  I like to be able to find the CD with the song on it.

Old Porter did some good ones.

I was sittin' in a coffee shop - Havin' a cup and passin' time
Swappin' rodeo stories - With this cowboy friend of mine
When some motorcycle rider - Started snickerin' in the back
And started pokin' fun at my friend's hat.

One ol' boy said: "Hey Tex! - Where'd you park your horse?"
My friend just pulled his hat down low - But they couldn't be ignored
One husky dude said: - "Maybe I'll just rip that hat right off your head."
And that's when my friend turned around and said.

CHORUS
"You'll ride a black tornado - Across the western skies
You'll rope an ol' blue norther - And milk it 'til it's dry
Bulldog the Mississippi - And pin its ears down flat
Long before you take this cowboy's hat."

He said "Pardner this ol' hat - Is better left alone
It used to be my daddy's hat - But last year he passed on
My nephew skinned the rattler - That makes up the hatband
But in sixty-nine he died in Vietnam.

I got this eagle feather - From an Indian friend of mine
Somebody ran him down - Close to the Arizona line
And a real special lady - Gave me this hat pin
And I don't know if I'll see her again."

CHORUS

"Now if your leather jacket means to you - What this old hat means to me
Then we understand each other - And we'll just let it be
But it you still think it's funny - Then my back's against the wall
But you touch my hat - And you'll have to fight us all."

Well I caught a little sadness - In that gangleader's eyes
Then he turned back to the others - And they shuffled on outside
And when my friend turned back towards me - I noticed that his brim
Was turned up like a big ol' Texas grin.
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

"I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved."

Oh boy!  The man who sung the working man's most favorite song: ;D

(Chorus:)
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
My woman done left and took all the reasons
I was working for
You better not try to stand in my way
As im a walking out the door.
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more

Ive been workin in this factory
From now on fifteen years
All this time I watched my woman
Drowning in a pool of tears
And Ive seen a lot of good folk die
Who had a lot of bills to pay
I'd give the shirt right off of my back
If I had the nerve to say

(Chorus)

Well that foreman, hes a regular dog
The line boss, hes a fool
Got a brand new flat-top haircut
Lord, he thinks hes cool
One of these days, Im gonna blow my top
And that sucker, hes gonna pay
Lord I cant wait to see their faces
When I get up the nerve to say

(Chorus)
"Finest partner I ever had.  Cleans his paws and buries his leavin's.  Lot more than some folks I know."

In the mood for some Hoyt Axton.

know a man as rich as a king
Still he just won't give his neighbors a thing
His day will come, I'll make a bet
He'll get to heaven and here's what he'll get

A rusty old halo skinny white cloud second hand wings full of patches
A rusty old halo skinny white cloud robe that's so wooly and it scratches

Some people have them big shiny cars
Swimming pools fur coats and diamonds in jars
Real silver gates real golden doors
They'll get up to heaven and trade them all for

A rusty old halo skinny white cloud...
While you're on earth you should shine like a star
Brighten up the corner wherever you are
Doing each day the best you can do
That way you're saure that they'll never hand you

A rusty old halo skinny white cloud...
A rusty old halo skinny white cloud...

Nuther one by Hoyt, he also let some other guys sing it. ;D

Well I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
They don't abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can't refuse it

Well I never been to England
But I kinda like the Beatles
Well, I headed for Las Vegas
Only made it out to Needles
Can you feel it
must be real it feels so good
Oh, feels so good

Well I never been to Heaven
But I been to Oklahoma
Well they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma, not Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter

Whoa, I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
They don't abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can't refuse it

Well I never been to Heaven
But I been to Oklahoma
Well they tell me I was born there

What does it matter

Hoyt was a nice fellar, he let other folks sing a lot of his songs. ;D

You say it was this morning when you last saw your good friend
Lyin' on the pavement with a misery on his brain
Stoned on some new potion he found upon the wall
Of some unholy bathroom in some ungodly hall
He only had a dollar to live on 'til next Monday
But he spent it on some comfort for his mind
Did you say you think he's blind?

Someone should call his parents, a sister or a brother
And they'll come to take him back home on a bus
But he'll always be a problem to his poor and puzzled mother
Yeah he'll always be another one of us
He said he wanted Heaven but prayin' was too slow
So he bought a one way ticket on an airline made of snow
Did you say you saw your good friend flyin' low?
Flyin' low
Dyin' slow

Along the same lines, my favorite one by Kristoferson.

See him wasted on the sidewalk in his jacket and his jeans,
Wearin' yesterday's misfortunes like a smile--
Once he had a future full of money, love, and dreams,
Which he spent like they was goin' outa style--
And he keeps right on a'changin' for the better or the worse,
Searchin' for a shrine he's never found--
Never knowin' if believin' is a blessin' or a curse,
Or if the goin' up was worth the comin' down--

He's a poet, he's a picker--
He's a prophet, he's a pusher--
He's a pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when he's stoned--
He's a walkin' contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction,
Takin' ev'ry wrong direction on his lonely way back home.

He has tasted good and evil in your bedrooms and your bars,
And he's traded in tomorrow for today--
Runnin' from his devils, Lord, and reachin' for the stars,
And losin' all he's loved along the way--
But if this world keeps right on turnin' for the better or the worse,
And all he ever gets is older and around--
From the rockin' of the cradle to the rollin' of the hearse,
The goin' up was worth the comin' down--

He's a poet, he's a picker--
He's a prophet, he's a pusher--
He's a pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when he's stoned--
He's a walkin' contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction,
Takin' ev'ry wrong direction on his lonely way back home.
There's a lotta wrong directions on that lonely way back home.

Called The Pilgrim Chapter 33, was the theme some for Cisco Pike, a very low budget film with him and Gene Hackman, from maybe 1971 or 72.

Chris was the only one I ever heard do it.

35 Years ago today, these fellas took the stage at Watkins Glen..

Virgil caine is the name, and I served on the danville train,

til stonemans cavalry came and tore up the tracks again.

In the winter of 65, we were hungry, just barely alive.

By may the tenth, richmond had fell, its a time I remember, oh so well,

(chorus)

The night they drove old Dixie down, and the bells were ringing,

The night they drove old Dixie down, and the people were singin. they went

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la,

Back with my wife in tennessee, when one day she called to me,

Virgil, quick, come see, there goes Robert E. Lee!

Now I dont mind choppin wood, and I dont care if the moneys no good.

Ya take what ya need and ya leave the rest,

But they should never have taken the very best.

(chorus)

Like my father before me, I will work the land,

Like my brother above me, who took a rebel stand.

He was just eighteen, proud and brave, but a yankee laid him in his grave,

I swear by the mud below my feet,

You cant raise a caine back up when hes in defeat.
