heard  a couple good ones on the Sirrus radio today...One from the Queen of the Blues

"Cry baby, cry baby, cry baby,
Honey, welcome back home.

I know she told you,
Honey I know she told you that she loved you
Much more than I did,
But all I know is that she left you,
And you swear that you just don't know why,
But you know, honey I'll always,
I'll always be around if you ever want me
Come on and cry, cry baby, cry baby, cry baby,
Oh honey, welcome back home.

Don't you know, honey,
Ain't nobody ever gonna love you
The way I try to do ?
Who'll take all your pain,
Honey, your heartache, too ?
And if you need me, you know
That I'll always be around if you ever want me
Come on and cry, cry baby, cry baby, cry baby,
Oh daddy, like you always saying to do.

And when you walk around the world, babe,
You said you'd try to look for the end of the road,
You might find out later that the road'll end in Detroit,
Honey, the road'll even end in Kathmandu.
You can go all around the world
Trying to find something to do with your life, baby,
When you only gotta do one thing well,
You only gotta do one thing well to make it in this world, babe.
You got a woman waiting for you there,
All you ever gotta do is be a good man one time to one woman
And that'll be the end of the road, babe,
I know you got more tears to share, babe,
So come on, come on, come on, come on, come on,
And cry, cry baby, cry baby, cry baby.

And if you ever feel a little lonely, dear,
I want you to come on, come on to your mama now,
And if you ever want a little love of a woman
Come on and baby baby baby babe babe baby now
Cry baby yeah."

this one I have been feeling lately that it's about me, before you start asking not in marital life.

I been run down, I been lied to,
I don't know why I let that mean woman make me a fool.
She took all my money, wrecked my new car.
Now she's with one of my goodtime buddies,
They're drinkin' in some crosstown bar.

Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I been tied to the whipping post,
Tied to the whipping post,
Tied to the whipping post,
Good lord, I feel like I'm dyin'.

My friends tell me, that I've been such a fool,
And I have to stand by and take it baby, all for lovin' you.
Drown myself in sorrow, and I look at what you've down.
But nothin' seems to change, the bad times stay the same,
And I can't run.

Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I been tied to the whipping post
Tied to the whipping post,
Tied to the whipping post,
Good lord, I feel like I'm dyin'.

Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I been tied to the whipping post
Tied to the whipping post,
Tied to the whipping post,
Good lord, I feel like I'm dyin'.

Try ta hear the original Screamin Jay when this goes thru yer head.  CCR was great, but, well the original is best.
I put a spell on you
'cause you're mine

You better stop the things you do
I ain't lyin'
No I ain't lyin'

You know I can't stand it
You're runnin' around
You know better daddy
I can't stand it cause you put me down

I put a spell on you
Because you're mine
You're mine

I love ya
I love you
I love you
I love you anyhow
And I don't care
If you don't want me
I'm yours right now

You hear me
I put a spell on you
Because you're mine

Local Sunday olies show played this one today, more Coe, a favorite of mine.

(Removes hat.)

Well, I was thumbin' from Montgomery
I had my guitar on my back
When a stranger stopped beside me in an antique Cadillac
Well he was dressed like 1950
Half drunk and hollow-eyed
He said "Its a long walk to Nashville
Would you like a ride, son?"
And well I sat down in the front seat, he turned on the radio
Them sad old songs comin' out of them speakers was solid country gold
And I noticed the stranger was ghost-white pale
When he asked me for a light
And I knew there was something strange about this ride

He said "Drifter can ya make folks cry when you play and sing?
Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues?
Can you bend them guitar strings?"
He said "Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside?
Cause if you're big star bound let me warn ya, its a long, hard ride"

Then he cried just south of Nashville
And he turned that car around
He said "This is where you get off boy,
Cause I'm goin' back to Alabam'"
As I stepped out of that Cadillac
I said "Mister, many thanks"
He said "You don't have to call me Mister, Mister.,
The whole world called me Hank

He said "Drifter can ya make folks cry when you play and sing?
Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues?
Can you bend them guitar strings?"
He said "Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside?
Cause if you're big star bound let me warn ya, its a long, hard ride"

He said "Drifter can ya make folks cry when you play and sing?
Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues?
Can you bend them guitar strings?"
He said "Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside?
Cause if you're big star bound let me warn ya, its a long, hard ride"

1983, late winter, early spring. ;D  Worked in a Body Shop at the time, I'd heard it, no one else had, heard it come on and told everyone it was on.  No hammerin' no sander runnin', dead silence.  After about a minute of that the boss came out to see what the heck was wrong, we were just standin' there around my radio.  He asked what's wrong, told him to sushhh for a bit. ;D

Another by Alan Jackson in the same vein.

(removes hat)

Midnight in Montgomery, silver eagle, lonely road
I was on my way to Mobile for a big New Year's Eve show
I stopped for just a minute to see a friend outside of town
Put my collar up, I found his name, and felt the wind die down

Then a drunk man in a cowboy hat took me by surprise
Wearing shiny boots, a Nudi suit and haunting haunted eyes
He said 'Friend it's good to see you, it's nice to know you care'
Then the wind picked up and he was gone
Was he ever really there

'Cause it's midnight in Montgomery
Just hear that whipporwill
See the stars light up the purple sky
Feel that lonesome chill
Cause when the wind is right, you'll hear his songs
Smell whiskey in the air
Midnight in Montgomery
He's always singing there

Well, I climbed back on that eagle, took one last look around
Through red tail lights a shadow moved slow across the ground
And off somewhere a midnight train is slowly passing by
I could hear that whistle moaning
I'm so lonesome I could cry

'Cause it's midnight in Montgomery
Just hear that whipporwill
See the stars light up the purple sky
Feel that lonesome chill
Cause when the wind is right, you'll hear his songs
Smell whiskey in the air
Midnight in Montgomery
He's always singing there
He's always singing there
Oh Hank's always singing there

"The Ride" and the "Perfect Country and Western Song" are my favorite David Alan Coe songs.

I'm kinda partial to this one, got it on the ringtone fer my messages on my phone.

COUNTRY DEEJAYS KNOWS THAT I'M AN OUTLAW
THEY'D NEVER COME TO SEE ME IN THIS DIVE
WHERE BIKERS STARE AT COWBOYS
WHO ARE LAUGHING' AT THE HIPPIES
WHO ARE PRAYING' THEY'LL GET OUT OF HERE ALIVE

LOUDMOUTH IN THE CORNER'S GETTING' TO ME
TALKIN' 'BOUT MY EARRINGS AND MY HAIR
I GUESS HE AIN'T READ THE SIGNS THAT SAY I'VE BEEN TO PRISON
SOMEONE OUGHT TO WARN HIM
'FORE I KNOCK HIM OFF HIS CHAIR

'CAUSE MY LONG HAIR JUST CAN'T COVER UP MY REDNECK
I'VE WON EVERY FIGHT I'VE EVER FOUGHT
AND I DON'T NEED SOME TURKEY TELLING' ME THAT I AIN'T COUNTRY
SAYING' I AIN'T WORTH DAMNED
OLD TICKET THAT HE BOUGHT

'CAUSE I CAN SING ALL THEM SONGS ABOUT TEXAS
AND I STILL DO ALL THE SAD ONES THAT I KNOW
THEY TELL ME I LOOK LIKE MERLE HAGGARD
AND SOUND A LOT LIKE DAVID ALLAN COE
AND THE BARMAID IN THE LAST TOWN THAT WE PLAYED IN
KNEW THE WORDS TO EVERY SONG I'D WROTE
SHE SAID JIMMY RABBIT TURNED HER ON TO MY LAST ALBUM
JUST ABOUT THE TIME THE JUKE BOX BROKE

YEAH, JOHNNY CASH HELPED ME GET OUT OF PRISON
LONG BEFORE RODRIGUEZ STOLE THAT GOAT
I'VE BEEN THE RHINESTONE COWBOY FOR SO LONG I CAN'T REMEMBER
AND I CAN DO YOU EVERY SONG
HANK WILLIAMS EVER WROTE

AND I CAN SING ALL THEM SONGS ABOUT TEXAS
AND I STILL DO ALL THE SAD ONES THAT I KNOW
I CAN'T HELP IT, I LOOK LIKE MERLE HAGGARD
AND I SOUND A LOT LIKE DAVID ALLAN COE

BUT THE COUNTRY D.J.'S ALL THINK I'M AN OUTLAW
AND THEY'D NEVER COME TO SEE ME IN THIS DIVE
WHERE BIKERS STARE AT COWBOYS
WHO ARE LAUGHING' AT THE HIPPIES
WHO ARE PRAYING' THEY'LL GET OUT OF HERE ALIVE

THE LOUDMOUTH IN THE CORNER'S GETTING' TO ME
TALKIN' 'BOUT MY EARRINGS AND MY HAIR

Also like this one, he opened his show in Lincoln in Dec 1976 with it.

CAN'T SEE NOTHING' BUT SPOTLIGHTS
SPOTLIGHTS SEE NOTHING' BUT ME
ALL OF MY MUSIC IS LONELY
YEA, ALL OF MY HEARTACHES WERE FREE
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR FLASH BULBS
TOO MANY HEROES ARE DEAD
YOU LIKE TO LIVE IN THE CITY
YEA, I LIKE TO LIVE IN MY HEAD

SOMEBODY SHOOT OUT THAT SPOTLIGHT
SPOTLIGHTS AIN'T NOTHING' BUT JIVE
ROLL ME A SMOKE, AND GIVE ME SOME COKE
TREAT ME LIKE I AM ALIVE
TELL ALL THE LADIES I'M SINGLE
TELL LONE STAR BEER THAT I'M DRY
EVERYONE'S LYING' BOUT LIVING'
I'M TIRED OF LIVING' A LIE

I SPEND MY NIGHTTIMES IN MOURNING'
I SPEND MY MORNING'S ALONE
YOU SPENT YOUR YOUR MONEY TO SEE ME TONIGHT
YEA, I SPENT ALL MINE GETTING' STONED

NOW THAT THEY'RE BOTH KINDA BUSTED
DOESN'T IT SEEM KINDA STRANGE
THAT I LAY DOWN KNOWING WE'RE TWO OF A KIND
AND YOU'LL LEAVE HERE KNOWING MY NAME

You never seen such a shocked crowd, he opened for Willie, Willie was not as well known then, but a lot of Willie fans, I and my friends were there to see Coe. ;D

I MET HER IN ATLANTA
SHE WAS A-DANCING IN A CAFE
WITH A PRICE TAG ON HER BODY
AND A TOMBSTONE IN HER EYE
YOU COULD TELL SHE WAS NOT HAPPY
BY THE WAY SHE KEPT ON STARING
PAST THE OTHER SIDE OF NOWHERE
AT A MAN SHE'D LIKE TO TRY

AND THE MAKE-UP SHE HAD PAINTED
COULD NOT HIDE THE YOUTHFUL MOTIONS
OF HER BODY
FROM THE MUSIC OR THE CROWD
I STARED LIKE ALL OTHERS
WITH MY RIGHT HAND IN MY POCKET
WHILE SHE SHOWED US
EVERYTHING THE LAW ALLOWED

TWENTY BUCKS AN HOUR LATER
MY ONE-BEDROOM APARTMENT
I WAS FEELING WEAK
FROM ALL THE SEEDS I'D SOWN
SHE WAS SWEET, SHE WAS GENTLE
AS SHE INTRODUCED MY BODY
TO SOME PLEASURES
IT HAD NEVER EVER KNOWN

WHEN I WOKE UP IN THE MORNING
SHE WAS A-LAYING THERE BESIDE ME
LIKE A KITTEN
WITH HER FACE TURNED TO THE SUN
AND A LOOK OF SATISFACTION
ON HER LIPS THAT MADE ME WONDER
IF SHE EVER FELT ASHAMED
OF WHAT WE'D DONE

SO I LEFT HER IN ATLANTA
SHE WAS A-DANCING IN CAFE
WITH A PRICE TAG ON HER BODY
AND A TOMESTONE IN HER EYE
AND I GUESS SHE STILL AIN'T HAPPY
BY THE WAY SHE KEEPS ON STARING
PAST THE OTHER SIDE OF NOWHERE
